Martha Colvin, 94, Colorado

Martha Alice Colvin, 94, of Greeley, Colorado passed away on March 14, 2005 at her home.
Born on December 2, 1910 in Denver, Colorado, she was the daughter of Ollie W. and Mary Elizabeth (Colvin) Langley of Falmouth, Kentucky (*Her mother's maiden name & her married name are both Colvin*).
Martha married Gideon Colvin on August 1, 1947 in Syracuse, New York. He passed away on December 29, 1987. She was raised in the Weldon Valley, living in Orchard, Goodrich, and Weldona. She attended grade schools in Orchard and Goodrich. She attended Weldo-na High School. She enjoyed her family, Bible studies, and Christian music. She enjoyed gardening, handwork, and her piano, as long as her physical condition permitted. She especially enjoyed listening to her son John play his guitar. She was also preceded in death by a son, Charles Colvin; a grandson, Charles (Squeek) Colvin; a great-grandson, Charles Dean (Charlie) Gregory; and two brothers, Charles Langley and Lewis Langley.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary Mayfield of Greeley, Colorado, sons, Devarue (Dee) and Belen Colvin of El Paso, Texas, Robert (Bob) (Barbara) Colvin of San Diego, California, John and Kathy Colvin of Greeley, Colorado, daughter-in-law, Relda Colvin of El Cajon, Calif., sister-in-law, Rachel Langley of Fort Morgan, fourteen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, ten great-great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, five step-great-grandchildren, four step-great-great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Services were held on Thursday, March 17, 2005 at the Adamson Memorial Downtown Chapel.
Interment took place in the Sunset Memorial Gardens, Greeley, Colorado.

Nancy Doggett, 81, Falmouth

Nancy E. Doggett, 81, of Falmouth, Ky., passed away on Friday, March 25, 2005 at the U.K. Medical Center from injuries received in an auto accident in Harrison County. Born on November 14, 1923 in Lenoxburg, Bracken County, Kentucky, she was a daughter of the late Ray and Vera Flaugher Dye. She married Kenneth L. Doggett on September 12, 1947, and her dear husband preceded her in death on December 4, 1999. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Judith Doggett Herbolich on Sept-ember 27, 1995. She graduated from the Butler High School in 1942. She was a member of Pendleton County Senior Citizens and an active member of the Antioch Mills Christian Church, Harrison County, including the Ladies Aid Society, Harrison County, an active member of the Woodmen of the World Lodge #611, and an active member of the Town and Country Homemaker Club of Pendleton County, and a retired employee of Bluegrass Army Depot in Avon, Fayette County.
Survivors include her son, Bill (Diana) Doggett, Lexington, Ky., daughter, Janice (Richard) Dyche, Lexington, Ky., son-in-law, Richard Herbolich, Lex-ington, Ky., her grandchildren, Darcy and Katie Anne Doggett, Abe and Elizabeth Dyche, Kelly and Emilee Herbolich, sisters, Mary Elizabeth Montagno, Bloomington, N.C., Virginia Lee Adams, Highland Heights, Ky.
Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 29, 2005, at the Antioch Mills Christian Church, Harrison County.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 29, 2005 at the Antioch Mills Christian Church, Harrison County with Bro. Chad Doerr, officiating. Music will be provided by Michael Cummins and Amy Doerr. Casket bearers will be Jimmy Auchter, Tommy Colvin, Zane Phillips, Tony Worrell, Gary Price, Jimmy Godman and Bob Jones. Honorary casket bearers will be Elders and Deacons of the Antioch Mills Christian Church.
Interment will take place in the Mt. Vernon Cemetery in Pendleton, County.

Loveda Williams, 72, Falmouth

Loveda Engle Williams, 72, of Falmouth, Ky., formerly of Williamstown, Ky., passed away on Monday, March 21, 2005 at the River Valley Nursing Home in Butler, Ky. Loveda was born in Hazard, Ky., on May 17, 1932, the daughter of the late Andrew and Nellie Engle. She was a member of the Kenton Baptist Church. She married Fred Williams and he preceded her in death on August 16, 1991.
Survivors include her sons, Keith Williams, Glencoe, Ky., Faron Williams, Alexandria, Ky., Kent Williams, Morn-ingview, Ky., daughters, Linda Jones, and Lila Moore both of Falmouth, Ky., Leta Wright, Erlanger, Ky., Lana Yates, Florence, Ky., Leslie Fugate, Independence, Ky., borther, Johnny Engle, Michigan, sisters, Knoxene Reynolds, Helen Jarell and Nina McClone all of Ypsilanti, Michigan, Juanita Brown, Ft. Scott, Kansas, Shirley Falco, New York, Ollie Robinson, Hazard, Ky., fifteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and friends.
Services were held on Thursday, March 24, 2005 following the visitation at the Peoples Funeral Home, Falmouth, Ky.
Per the request of Loveda, interment was by cremation.

 

Donal D. White, 79, Alexandria

Donal D. White, 79, of Alexandria, Ky., passed away on March 10, 2005 at the Lakeside Nursing Home in Highland Heights, Ky. Born on February 24, 1926 in Winfield, Tenn. He served as Seaman 1st class for 2 years in the U.S. Navy and fought in World War II. He and his wife Margaret (Payne) White moved to Illinois and both worked at Universal Over-All Company for 35 years. Donal was a Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, and worked with the boys club at Berwyn Bible Church. When they retired he and his wife of 53 years moved back to Kentucky and resided in Alexandria. They returned to their former church, Madison Avenue Christian Church in Covington. He was a deacon until his illness prevented him to continue his duties. He very much enjoyed gardening, working with his grandson in his work room making different wood carving projects, he also enjoyed going to his family/school reunions, but most of all he enjoyed his mornings with his wife having a cup of coffee and sharing the newspaper. He was a very loving and devoted husband, father and grandpa. He really enjoyed being around his grandchildren and seeing them in their recitals, games, concerts, and parades. He will be missed very much by many whom he has touched throughout his long life.
Survivors include his loving wife Margaret (Payne) White, sons, Donald (Barbara) Sur-prise, Arizona, Michael (Dia ne) Aurora, Ill., Douglas White, Berwyn, Ill., Mark (Lydia) Cold Spring, Ky., John (Monica) Glenview, Ill., daughters, Donna Schaetzle (Elmer) Ninilchik, Alaska., Linda Walton (William) Cincinnati, Ohio, sister, Ruth Girdler, Cincinnati, Ohio, ten grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Mark E. White, Mark A. White, Douglas White, John White, John Ryan Webber, and Larry Bentley.
Services were held on March 14, at Fares Radel in Cold Spring, Ky., under the direction of Pastor Anne Benson of St. Luke Lutheran Church of Cold Spring, Ky.
Interment took place in the Alexandria Cemetery.

 

Euna Eshom, 91, Ohio

Euna Eshom, 91, of Cincinnati, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, March 24, 2005 at the Matrix of Westwood Nursing Home in Cincinnati, Ohio. Euna was born in Rockhold, Ky., on June 20, 1913, the daughter of the late King and Louise Sawyer Hill. She was a member of the High Point Baptist Church in Cincinnati, Ohio. She married Clifton Eshom and he preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Troy, Harvey, Ezra, Alfred and Ralph Hil and her sister, Flora Elva.
Survivors include daughters, Patricia Case, Falmouth, Ky., Janet Sheldon, Carlisle, Ohio, Mary Lou Bucksath, Richwood, Ky., seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services were held on Monday, March 28, 2005 at the Rest Haven Cemetery Chapel in Blue Ash, Ohio under the direction of Peoples Funeral Home, Falmouth, Ky.
Interment took place in the Rest Haven Memorial Park.

Ellis Smith, 85, Carrollton

Ellis Smith, 85, of Carrollton, Ky., passed away on Wednesday, March 23, 2005 at the V.A. Hospital in Louisville, Ky. Ellis was born on February 3, 1920, the son of David and Susan Pigman Smith. He was a World War II Army Veteran, a member of the Americam Legion in Carrollton and the V.F.W. He was preceded in death by his brother John Smith and three children, Kenneth Ray, Joseph Allen, and John.
Survivors include his children Patsy (Billy) McGuire, David (Janice) Smith, Wayne (Linda) Smith, Agnes Rader, Mayme (Ed) Steinmetz, Susan Drury, Katie (Rev. Darrell) Breeden, Carol McDole, brothers, Joe Smith, Alabama, Robert Smith, Lexington.
Services were held on Friday, March 25, 2005 at the Carrollton Wesleyan Church. Pallbearers were his grandsons, Kevin McGuire, David and Michael Smith, Tim Raisor, Robert and Gilbert McBurney, Daniel Breeden, Jeremiah McDole. Honorary pallbearer was Joshua Smith.
Interment took place in the I.O.O.S. Cemetery in Carrollton, Ky.
Peoples Funeral Home, Falmouth, served the family.

Viola Pearl Kidwell, 86, of Butler, Ky., passed away on Saturday, March 26, 2005 at the St. Luke Hospital East in Ft. Thomas, Ky. Viola was born in Boston, Ky., on July 30, 1918, the daughter of the late Thomas and Mary Plummer Bradford. She was a member of the Chapel of Praise Assembly of God, Falmouth, Ky. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Wilson Kidwell in 1970 and sister, Elsie Green.
Survivors include: sons, Eugene M. (Peggy) Kidwell, Butler, Ky., Allen (Ruth) Kidwell, Butler, Ky., daughters, Trena C. (Michael) Roberts, Alexandria, Ky., Diana (Don) Johnson, Butler, Ky., Regina G. (Terry) Plummer, Alexandria, Ky., ten grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services were held on Wednesday, March 30, 2005 at the Peoples Funeral Home, Grants Lick, Ky.
Interment took place in the Butler Cemetery.

Bill Arnold, 84, Falmouth

Bill Arnold, 84, of Falmouth, passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2005, at the Edgemont Manor Nursing Home, Cynthi-ana. Born on April 29, 1920 in Pendleton County, Kentucky, he was a son of the late Tilsbury Miles and Nellie Dance Arnold. He married Mazella Colvin Arnold on March 16, 1945 and his dear wife survives his passing. He was a farmer and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Gumlick Baptist Church, Pen-dleton County. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four siblings: Woodie, Mary, Betty, and Wanda.
In addition to his wife, Mazella Colvin Arnold, he is survived by one daughter, Vickie McDowell of Falmouth; two sons: Billy (Lisa) Arnold of Falmouth, and Terry (Dalette) Arnold of Falmouth; four grandchildren: Robin Arnold, Cara Arnold, Brent McDowell and Brandon McDowell; one sister: Mabel Cabral of Detroit, Michigan; and one brother, Pete Arnold of Falmouth, Kentucky.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 31, 2005, at the Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth, with Bro. Don Mays officiating. The music was shared by Betty Colvin, Ramona Colvin, and David Bay. The pallbearers were Carl Colvin, Tommy Colvin, Randy Colvin, Kevin Colvin, Steve Carr, and Marty Beagle. Interment took place in the Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Pendleton County with full military honors by the Hardin- Browning Post #109.

Donald Pack, 72, Alexandria

Donald Pack, 72, of Terrace Court, Alex-andria, Ky., formerly of Wilder, Ky., passed away on Sunday, March 27, 2005 at the Duro Paper Bag Company, Covington, Ky. Born in Newport, Ky., on July 25, 1932, the son of the late Golden Riley and Marie Meyers Pack. He was a security guard at Duro Bag, A Veteran in the U.S. Air Force, for 15 years as a part-time police officer for Wilder, 10 years, a volunteer fireman for Wilder, 8 years Wilder City Council, 35 years. F.H. Lawson Co.-sheet metal worker. He was preceded in death by his brother James Pack.
Survivors include his wife, Della (Schardt) Pack, Wilder, Ky., daughters, Deb (Don) Schraer, Alexandria, Ky., Dawn (Greg) Rodgers, Butler, Ky., son, Donald E. (Cindy) Pack, Alexandria, Ky., brother, Kenn-eth R. Pack, Newport, Ky., and four grandchildren.
Memorial services were held on Thursday, March 31, 2005, at the St. Johns Catholic Church, Wilder, Ky., under the direction of Peoples Funeral Home, Grants Lick, Ky.
Interment took place in the St. Steven Cemetery.

 

Rita Baker, 48, Butler

Rita Ann Baker, 48, of Butler, Ky., passed away on Friday, April 1, 2005 at her home. Rita was born in Ohio on March 12, 1957. She was the daughter of Ruben and Beatrice Hayes Baker.
Survivors include her father, Ruben Baker, Butler, Ky., mother Beatrice Sparks, Wilmington, Ohio, daughter, Angel Lucas, Butler, Ky., son, Sam Lucas, Butler, Ky., brothers, Mark Baker, Lexington, Ky., Andy Baker, Crittenden, Ky., sister, Yvonne Baker, Crittenden, Ky.
Visitation services will be held from 10 a.m. - 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 5, 2005 at the Peoples Funeral Home, Falmouth, Ky. There will be no funeral services.
Interment will be by cremation.

 

Katherine Callahan, 86, Cincinnati

Katherine Ruth Callahan, 86 of Cincinnati, Ohio. formerly of Falmouth, Ky. passed away on Thursday March 31, 2005 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati. She was born in Pendleton Co, April 26, 1918, a daughter of the late Eugene and Flossie Ann Simpson Hamilton. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Callahan and a brother Leonard Ham-ilton. During her younger years she was employed at the Former 3L restaurant of Falmouth and the former Red Star Inn which was a 24 hour bus stop between Lexington and Cincinnati. Early in life she moved to Cincinnati, when during WWII she worked in the cafeteria for Wright Aeronautical Corp. She moved to Florida in 1957 staying over 40 years until returning to Cincinnati. While in Florida, she taught Sunday school in Miami at the Temple Baptist Church and the New Testament Baptist Church, she sang in the Choir for both churches for almost 40 years. She was a self taught artist preferring the pen and pencil, a member of the Fairview Baptist Church in Cincinnati, and a member of the Calvary Baptist Church Sunday School in Latonia, Ky.
Surviving are two daughters; Linda Gail Whanger of Taylor Mill, Ky., Phyllis Joyce Edwards of Appleton, Wiscon-sin, threegrandchildren; Brad Anthony Whanger, Jeremy Nathaniel Whanger, Jonathan Randall Edwards and two great grandchildren; Camille Eliza-beth Whanger and Mikayla Sue Whanger.
Services were held at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, April 4, 2005 at Woodhead Funeral Home in Falmouth, Ky., with Rev. Robert Montgomery officiating. The pallbearers were Walter Whanger, Randy Edwards, Jonathan Edwards and Jeremy Whanger.
Interment took place in the Riverside Cemetery, Falmouth, Ky.

 

Willie Anglin, 85, Dry Ridge

Willie Anglin, 85, of Dry Ridge, Ky., passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2005 at his residence after a four month battle with cancer. Born on August 17, 1919 in Duluth, Madison County, Ky., the son of the late Mart Anglin and Hester Ballinger. He married Gertrude Isaacs Anglin on May 27, 1943 and his dear wife survives his passing. He attended the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Williamstown, Ky., a former Union Steward for Franklin, Ohio, local United Paper Workers Union, a finisher and rewinder for Millen Industries, Franklin, Ohio for 30 years where he retired in 1981, and a former farmer.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Gertrude Isaacs Anglin, Dry Ridge, Ky., sons, William Junior Anglin, Falmouth, Ky., Charles H. Anglin, Corinth, Ky., daughters, Connie Stewart, Lebanon, Ohio, Linda Anglin, Dry Ridge, Ky., Brenda Allen, Williamstown, Ky., brother Archie Anglin, Berea, Ky., nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
Services were held on Saturday, April 2, 2005 at the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, Williamstown, Ky., with the Rev. Ronald Angell officiating.
Interment took place in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery, William-stown, Ky.

Erlynne Bush, 67, California

Erlynne Joy Bush, 67, of California, Ky., passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2005 at the St. Luke Hospital West. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her daughter Mary Bush in 1993.
Survivors include: sons, Ben Patterson, Alexandria, Ky., Bob, Jay, Jeff, and Joe Bush all of Alexandria, Ky., daughters, Cindy Faranda, Las Vegas, Mickie Pinrod, Christi Jones and Amie Broughton, all of Alexandria, Ky., sister, Patricia Burmastier, St. Petersburg, Florida, eighteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick, Ky., is in charge of the arrangements.

 

Wilholmina Caywood, 92, Paris

Wilholmina Caywood, 92, of Paris, Ky., passed away on Tuesday, March 9, 2005 at her home. Mrs. Caywood was a graduate of Campbell County High School where she was a member of the tennis and softball teams; she attended Eastern KY University, University of Cincinnati, Fugazzi Business College, Lexington, KY, and a graduate of the University of Kentucky. She was a retired teacher, she taught in Campbell County Schools, Falmouth Independent Schools and Bourbon County Schools. She was preceded in death by her husband James B. Caywood Sr., in 1977.
Survivors include her daughter, Jane Caywood Johnson, Paris, Ky., son James B. (Pauletta) Caywood, Jr., Paris, Ky., granddaughter, Kate (Nicholas) Cabrini, Columbia, Ky., grandsons, Clinton Tate Caywood, Paris, Ky., James B. Caywood, III, Richmond, Ky., James Leslie Johnson, Paris, Ky., and four grandchildren.
Services were held on Friday, April 1, 2005 at the Alexandria Funeral Home, Alexandria, Ky.
Interment took place in the Alexandria Cemetery, Alexan-dria, Ky.

Tina L. Downard, 85, of Newport, Ky., formerly of Pendleton County, passed away on Saturday, April 9, 2005 at the St. Luke Hospital East in Ft. Thomas, Ky. She was born in New Mexico on March 12, 1920, a daughter of the late Walker and Maggie Leigh McClane. She was preceded in death by her husband Pearl M. Downard on Januray 14, 1974.
Survivors include her sons, Ed Downard, Alexandria, Ky., Gary Downard, Brooksville, Ky., John Downard, Alexandria, Ky., daughter, Helen Aleene Tool, Butler, Ky., sisters, Stella Gosney, Newport, Ky., Mary McClane, Covington, Ky., Lula Belle Utz, Butler, Ky., Ruby Ducker, Butler, Ky., Faye Berydas, Louisville, Ky., Martha McGaha, Louisville, Ky., brother, Elijah McClane, Demossville, Ky., twelve grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 12, 2005 at the Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth, Ky., with services following after the visitation.
Interment will take place in the Oakland Cemetery.

Tina L. Downard, 85, of Newport, Ky., formerly of Pendleton County, passed away on Saturday, April 9, 2005 at the St. Luke Hospital East in Ft. Thomas, Ky. Interment took place in the Oakland Cemetery.

Harold Shepperd, 72, Gardnersville

Harold Shepperd, 72, of Gardnersville, Ky., passed away on Sunday, April 10, 2005 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood. Born on July 24, 1932, in Grant County, Ky., he was the son of Dessie Wright Shepperd and the late James Shepperd. He married Manda Ballard Shepperd, and his dear wife survives his passing.
Additional survivors include his daughter, Connie Fightmas-ter, Gardnersville, Ky., sons, Joseph E. Harold Shepperd, 72, Gardnersville

Harold Shepperd, 72, of Gardnersville, Ky., passed away on Sunday, April 10, 2005 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood. Born on July 24, 1932, in Grant County, Ky., he was the son of Dessie Wright Shepperd and the late James Shepperd. He married Manda Ballard Shepperd, and his dear wife survives his passing. He was a retired farmer, but he remained very active with his farm. He was a member of the Gardnersville Christian Church, Pendleton County. He served in the U.S. Army, 101st Airborne, during the Korean War Conflict, he also served 5 years as Constable in Pendleton County. He was appointed to serve as Magistrate of Grassy Creek in 1976, by Gov. Julian M. Carroll, and he continued to serve his county as magistrate for 18 years. He had been named as a Kentucky Colonel. For over 20 years, he had served on the Gardnersville Cemetery Board. He loved to fish and play cards with his family and friends. Harold’s favorite charity was for research on Leukemia.
In addition to his father, James Shepperd, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Shepperd and Mary Alice Baxter, and one brother, Randy LaFollette.
In addition to his wife of 52 years, Manda Ballard Shepperd he leaves his daughter, Connie Fightmaster, Gardnersville, Ky., sons, Joseph E. Shepperd Sr., Paul Shepperd, and Phillip Shepperd, all of Gardnersville, Ky., and Mark Shepperd of Dry Ridge, Ky., four grandsons, five granddaughters, two great-grandchildren, his mother, Dessie Shepperd of Falmouth, Ky., sisters, Jean Barton, Springhill, Florida, Reba Shepperd, Falmouth, Ky., brothers, Sonny Shepperd, Jamestown, Ky., Allen Shepperd, Clarksville, Tennessee, Billy and Jackie Shepperd, Falmouth, Ky., Joseph Shepperd, Cynthiana, Ky., Donnie Shepperd, U.S. Army, Pennsylvania, Gary Shepperd, Covington, Ky., and Gerald Shepperd, Milford, Ohio.
Services were held on Thursday, April 14, 2005 at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth, with Bro. Dave Huddleston and Bro. Paul Stamper officiating. Pallbearers were his sons, Joseph E. Shepperd, Sr., Mark Shepperd, Paul Shepperd, and Phillip Shepperd, his son-in-law, Art Fightmaster, and his grandsons, Joseph E. Shepperd, Jr., Jonothan Shepperd, and Joshua Shepperd.

J.B. Clemons, 63, of Cold Spring, Ky., passed away on Saturday, April 9, 2005 at his residence. He was a welding supervisor for The Busch-man Company in Cincinnati, Ohio, a member of The Apo-stolic Church of God, Alex-andria, Ky., and was an Army Veteran in the Vietnam War. He was preceded in death by his daughter Connie Sexton.

Marjorie Downard, 77, Falmouth

Marjorie “Margie” Downard, 77, of Falmouth, Kentucky, passed away on Wednesday, April 13, 2005, at the St. Luke Hospital East Hospice in Ft. Thomas. She was born on March 7, 1928 in Bracken County, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Henry and Grace Curtis Mofford. She married Clyde Phillip Downard on May 25, 1943, and her dear husband preceded her in death on January 22, 2001. She was a restaurant worker at the former Stop & Tell Restaurant, Falmouth, and she was a member of the New Zion Baptist Church, Pendleton County. She was preceded in death by two sons: Donnie Wayne Downard on November 8, 1981 and Clyde David Downard on October 24, 1968; one great grandson, Andrew “Drew” Downard; her sister, Mary “Sis” Workman; and her brother, Dean Mofford.
She leaves one son, Phillip Dale (Viola) Downard of Crestview, Kentucky; 8 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; one sister, Gertrude “Gert” Cooper of Brooksville, Kentucky.
Services were held on Satur-day, April 16, 2005, at the Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth, with Bro. Ronnie Angell officiating. Pallbearers for the service were Dale Downard, Jr., David Downard, Ron Gubser, Dan Quinn, Gary Mofford, and Bobby Bishop.
Interment took place in the Downard Cemetery, Bracken County.

Leonard F. Wright, 78, of Falmouth, Ky., passed away on Wednesday, April 13, 2005 at the St. Elizabeth Hospital South. Leonard was born in Pendleton County Kentucky on January 2, 1927. He was the son of the late Floyd and Flora Cason Wright. He married his first wife Eula LaFollette Wright and she preceded him in death. He later married his second wife Pauline Wright and his dear wife survives his passing. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Donald and Randall Wright and a sister, Juanita King.

Robert Best, 73, Falmouth

Robert Baxton Best, Sr., 73 of Falmouth, passed away on Friday, April 15, 2005 at his residence. Born on February 13, 1932, he was the only child of the late Hoyt Burns and Genevieve Stith Best. He was a graduate of the University of Kentucky, a member and deacon of the Falmouth Baptist Church, a charter member of the Kincaid Lake State Park Board of Directors, and a businessman in Falmouth, where he owned and operated an insurance and real estate company for 45 years. On June 14, 1953 he married Wilma Ammerman Best and his wife preceded him in death on June 20, 1989. In addition to his late wife, he was preceded in death by 1 granddaughter; Jillian Moorhead.
He is survived by 2 daughters; Denise (Jeff) Dean of Falmouth, Ky, Diane (Roger) Moorhead of Falmouth, 1 son; Robert (Rita) Best, Jr., of Falmouth, 8 grandchildren; Bryant Dean, Anna Dean, Brandon Moorhead, Todd Moorhead, Andrew Moorhead, Nikki Best, Matthew Best, and Rebecca Best, and his fiancé; Goldie Barnes.
Services were held on Monday, April 18, 2005 at Falmouth Baptist Church with Rev. Don Mays officiating.
Interment followed in the Riverside Cemetery in Falmouth, Ky. Pallbearers for the service were Jeff Dean, Roger Moorhead, Bryant Dean, Brandon Moorhead, Todd Moorhead, Andrew Moorhead, and Matthew Best. Music was shared by Darryl Ammerman. Woodhead Funeral Home served the family.

Ruth Jones, 85, Lexington

Ruth Evelyn Shoemaker Jones, 85, of Lexington, Ky., widow of Gatton Jones, passed away on Thursday, April 14, 2005 at Mayfair Manor. Born on June 19, 1919 in Pendleton County, she was the daughter of Jason Carr Shoemaker and Myrtie Foley Shoemaker. She was an active member of Immanuel Baptist Church for six decades, worked with her husband in the food brokerage business, and in her younger years was a member of the Lexington Woman’s Club. She was preceded in death by her brother, William Foley Shoemaker, and sister, Alicia Frayne Shoemaker.
Survivors include her son, Billy (The Reverend Bonnie Quantrell) Gatton Jones daughter, Judy (Tom) Shrout, grandsons, Brentley Carr Jones, Travis Haig Jones, granddaughter, Heather (Jim) Shrout Allen, great-grandson, Tate Jacob Allen, great-granddaughter, Ainsley Abigail Allen, sister, Dorothy (Jim) Wesley and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held on Monday, April 18, 2005 at Milward’s Southland Funeral Home, Lexington, Ky., with Ted Sisk and Dr. Mike James officiating. Pallbearers were her nephews and great nephews.
Interment took place in the Lexington Cemetery.

Marion F. “Pee Wee”, Jr., Hamilton, 77 of Louisville, passed away on April 5, 2005 at his home, the Corinthian. He was a native of Falmouth, Ky., the son of the late Florida Hamilton, a native of Falmouth, Ky., an Army Veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict and he was a retired supervisor in the range department at General Electric. He was a Kentucky Colonel, member of Highland Park Masonic Lodge and Crestwood United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wives, Margery Hamilton and Eleanor Hamilton.
Survivors include his daughters, Sherry Hamilton, M.D., Lou Ann Maurer, Lyn Walker-Meena, Marcia Cowart and Janet Spaulding, sons, Page, Jr., and Steve Walker, brothers, Earl and Lee Hamilton and thirteen grandchildren.
Services were held on April 9 at the Highlands Family Owned Funeral Home.

Calvin “Perk” Perkins, 84, of Falmouth, passed away on Wednesday, April 20, 2005 at St. Luke Hospital East in Ft. Thomas, Ky. Born on Septem-ber 28, 1920, he was a son of the late Pearlie and Lillie Adams Perkins. He was a member of Falmouth Baptist Church and a sign painter for many years.
He is survived by a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Osborne Mattingly, Sr., in 1998 son Osburne Mattingly, Jr., in 1970, and step-son James Mattingly in 1999.

She was the retired owner of Breuer Delicatessen and D & N Delicatessen, Cincinnati. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norvin Breuer, and her daughter, Connie Roberts.

Jewell Browning, 92, Fostoria

Jewell W. Browning, 92, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, April 20, 2005 following a special day with her family and friends at the Good Shepherd Home, Fostoria. Born August 7, 1912 in Falmouth, Ky. to the late James F. and Cora Lee (Wyatt) Wright, she married Everett T. Browning on Mar. 8, 1936 in Falmouth, and he preceded her in death in 1959. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Ernest Wright, sister, Ethel Hamilton, great granddaughter, Danielle Hiatt, and son-in-law, Darrell Hiatt. A graduate of Falmouth High School, she was a homemaker, a member of Central Christian Church, Richmond, Indiana, where she lived for many years. While in Richmond, Jewell helped two gentlemen who had lost their wives raise a total of seven children, spending most of her time devoted to their care. Her good sense of humor, engaging personality and genuine concern for others made her a friend and mother figure to many. Jewell enjoyed playing euchre, camping and taking trips, especially to Amish country.
Survivors include: a daughter, Berneda “Bea” Hiatt, Fostoria, a son, Rickey Allen Browning, Luther Home of Mercy, Williston, Ohio; three grandchildren, Anette (Jim) Blake, Fostoria, Tony (Nancy) Hiatt, Van Buren, and Tom (Dayna) Hiatt, Pittsburgh, Pa.; eight great grandchildren, Jessica and Joey Blake, Tyler, Collin, Mackenzie, Tess, Emma, and Wade Hiatt; and numerous loving friends.
Services were held on Thursday, April 21, 2005 at the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria, with Chaplain Jim Sampson officiating.
Interment took place on Friday, April 22 in the Riverside Cemetery, Falmouth, Kentucky.
Memorials are suggested to the Luther Home of Mercy, Williston, Ohio or to the Good Shepherd Home, Fostoria.

Beulah Rose 85, Columbia, S.C.

Beulah Binford Bray Rose, 85, passed away on Friday, April 22, 2005, wife of the late MSG James M. Rose, U.S. Army (Ret), born in Campbell County, Ky., she was a daughter of the late Grayson Bray and Frances Smith Bray. She was a member of the North Trenholm Baptist Church and actively involved with the Joy Club of Lugoff First Baptist Church, also a member of the Red Hat Society at Wildewood Downs. She loved gardening, flowers and traveling. She was a beloved mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her daughter Ruth Mann and sister, Evelyn Poe.
Survivors include her son James “Jim” (Rebecca Rose), Grayson Lexington, Ky., daughter, Kay Rose (John Estes) Great Falls, brothers, Maurice Lee Bray, Butler, Ky., Wilson (Shirley) Bray, Alexandria, Ky., sister, Norma Grace Foster, Morganton, Ga., son-in-law, Marcus Mann, Lake Wateree, grandchildren, Loris Rushing, Lynn Walden, Marcus Mann III and Caroline Gross, great-granddaughter, Jessica Rushing.
Services will be held on Tuesday, April 26, 2005 at 2 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, Columbia, S.C.
Interment will take place in the Greenlawn Memorial Park.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Lugoff First Baptist Church Building Fund or North Trenholm Baptist Church.

 

Rev. Charles Sparks, 74, Ohio

Rev. Charles Sparks, 74 of Mt. Carmel, Ohio passed away on Thursday, April 21, 2005 at his residence. He was a machinist at the OPW Dover Corporation. He attended The Grace Church of God, and had ministered at many churches abroad including Locust Pike Free Penticostal Church of God, and Fairfax Church of God. He also was a Korean War Veteran.
Survivors include his wife Elzira, sons, Charlie, Raymond and Robert Sparks, all of Cincinnati, daughters, Mary Slone, Batavia, Kathleen Lusby, Goshen, Robin Hatfield, Hammersville, Brenda Gabbard, Cincinnati, brothers, Reverend Franklin Sparks, Jerry Sparks, Fayettville, Kenneth Sparks, Mt. Orb, sisters, Betty Voit, Texas, Nancy Langdon, Abeden, Dorothy Roseberry, Ludlow, Ky., Alice Johns, Georgetown, Elizabeth Malone, Cincinnati, Mary Neale, Mt. Orb, Shirley Vann, Fayetteville, Barbara Watkins, Sardinia, Helen Perry, Stanford, Ky., Diane Walls, Ft. Mitchell, Stella Hinkle, Indiana, eleven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
Services were held on Monday, April 25, 2005 under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home Grants Lick, Ky.
Interment took place in the Graceland Memorial Gardens.

 

Leona Blades, 98, Ohio

Leona Evelyn Blades, 98, of Huntington Court, passed away on Wednesday, April 20, 2005. She was born on July 18, 1906, near Falmouth, Ky., the daughter of Henry and Gertrude (Schmidt) Dahms and received her education in the schools of Pendleton County, Ky. On March 8, 1925, she married Carl A. Blades and he preceded her in death on December 6, 1978. She was also preceded in death by one son in infancy, one grandson, Rick Blades, brothers, Roy and Randall Dahms, sisters, Edna and Mabel Dahms, Lillian Yauger, Myrtle Thomin and Gladys White. A resident of Hamilton, Ohio, since January 1926, she liked needle work and sewing for her children and grandchildren. She also loved photography and took many pictures ever since she was a young girl. She attended church at the First Church of God, Hamilton, Ohio.
Survivors include her son, Emery (Ethelda) Blades, daughters, Evelyn Orth, Loma Wynn and Myra (Don) Nuxhall, sister, Alpha Lynch, Fairfield, Ohio, eight grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, eleven great-great-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Services were held on Monday, April 25, 2005 at the Zettler Funeral Home with Pastor Keith Gebhart and Carter Arvin officiating.
Interment took place in the Rose Hill Burial Park.
Memorials may be directed to the First Church of God, 3100 Princeton Road, Hamilton, Ohio 45011, to either the missions or building fund.

 

Herwood Nelson, 84, Falmouth

Herwood Nelson, 84, of Falmouth, Ky., formerly of Campbell County, Ky., passed away on Monday, April 18, 2005, at the River Valley Nursing Home in Butler. Born on December 6, 1921 in California, Ky., he was a son of Everett and Bertha Willhite Nelson. He worked for the V.A. in Midland Park, California for 35 years and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Church, Falmouth, and a former member of the Hardin- Browning Post #109. One brother, Paul Nelson, preceded him in death.
He leaves four brothers: Byron Nelson of Alexandria, Ky., Charles Nelson of Melbourne, Ky., William Nelson of California, Ky., and Garland Nelson of Cold Spring, Ky.; two sisters: Marcella Whitaker of Highland Heights, Ky., and Vivian Sayers of Silver Grove, Ky.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, April 20, 2005, at the St. Francis Xavier Church with Father Gregory J. Bach officiating.
Interment with full military honors by the Hardin- Browning Post #109 took place in the St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Falmouth. Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth, served the family.
