11 Jul 06:

Sally McKinney Booher, 71, Florence

Sally Elinore (McKinney) Booher, 71, of Florence, Kentucky, formerly of Falmouth, Kentucky, passed away on Friday, July 07, 2006, at the Hospice Unit of St. Elizabeth Medical Center North in Covington, Kentucky. Sally, the daughter of Hobert and Josephine Wiggins McKinney, was born in Falmouth on December 17, 1934 and graduated from Falmouth High School. Following graduation, she attended Good Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing in Lexington, Kentucky, where she earned a Registered Nursing Degree.

On September 14, 1957, Sally married her long-time sweetheart, Edgar R. Booher, who survives her passing. She was an outstanding nurse and had the opportunity to practice her profession in several areas of the country due to transfers associated with her husband's employment as a Kentucky State Trooper and United States Treasury Agent. They began their married life in LaGrange, Kentucky, and while living there, Sally worked as an Emergency Room Nurse at Louisville General Hospital and also performed hospital nursing at Norton Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. She later worked as an Emergency Room Nurse at St. Luke Hospital in Ft. Thomas, Kentucky and St. Clair Regional Medical Center in Morehead, Kentucky. Another transfer allowed her to work as Nurse Epidemiologist and perform general nursing duties at hospitals in the Greater Cincinnati area before the family was transferred to Northeast Ohio. There she worked in the area of Industrial Nursing at both the Chrysler and Ford Motor Plants, and later became a supervisor with Kelly Home-Care Services in the Cleveland, Ohio area. In 1979, her husband was transferred to Washington, DC and the family moved to Springfield, Virginia, a suburb in the DC area. Sally was accepted for employment with the Federal Government in DC as an Occupational Health Nurse with the Department of Health and Human Services. In that capacity, she worked at Government Health Units throughout the DC metropolitan area for various government agencies such as the Internal Revenue Service; Library of Congress; Department of Agriculture; Department of Justice; U.S. Park Service; and The Kennedy Center. Over the next 10 years she had the opportunity to provide medical services to several high government officials. At the Kennedy Center, not only did she provide medical services to government employees, occasionally members of the performing arts would require treatment, which she provided. On one occasion, while on duty at the Kennedy Center, she was called to the Presidential Box to administer first-aid to one of President Bush's energetic grandsons, who was bouncing around and suffered a "bump".

Sally was an excellent nurse and was respected by everyone with whom she made contact. In about 1978, during the administration of then Governor Julian Carroll, Sally had the honor of being named a Kentucky Colonel.

Everywhere the family moved, the Church was a central focus in family life. Sally immediately became involved with Church activities, especially where music was concerned. She sang as a choir member at Churches in every community where the family lived, most recently with the choir at Immanuel United Methodist Church, Lakeside Park, Kentucky. Even in failing health, Sally sang with the choir until her health problems made it impossible for her to participate. Her Christian faith never wavered even during difficult times and it is wonderful know that she is now in the presence of the God she so loved.

In addition to her husband, of 48 years, Edgar R. Booher, survivors include sons: Benjamin Loran Booher of Florence, Kentucky and Aaron Joseph Booher of Lorton, Virginia; daughter, Lauren Jo Olson-Sadlak of Boardman, Ohio; 8 grandchildren; two brothers: William E. McKinney and Stephen McKinney, both of Lexington, Kentucky; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Amanda Layne Booher on October 10, 2005, and her grandson, Aaron Austin Booher on July 10, 1997.

Funeral services were held at Immanuel United Methodist Church, on Sunday, July 9, 2006 with Rev. Dr. Barry Carpenter and Rev. Dr. Donald Guth officiating. Music was shared by Joanne Brumm, the Chancel Choir, and the Immanuel Handbells. The pallbearers were David Booher, Jonathan McKinney, Lynn Booher, Alan Olson, Lonnie Gregg, and Jacob Booher. Interment took place in the Riverside Cemetery, on Monday, July 10, 2006.
