1-21-1994: Rockcastle County, Kentucky News Article, "Mount Vernon Signal", Earl Louis Kirby died. Obit dated 1-27-1994; Earl Louis Kirby, 76, Sassafras and formerly of Rockcastle County, died Jan. 21, 1994 at the Hazard Appalachian Regional Medical Center in Hazard. He was born in Rockcastle County Oct. 11, 1917, the son of Jerry and Nettie French Kirby, a retired custodian for the Knott County Board of Education and a member of the Blue Springs Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife, Hester Kirby, Blanchester, Ohio; two sons, Jerry Kirby and Bill Kirby, both of Hindman; a daughter, Betty Lou Sandlin, Anco; three brothers, Virgil Kirby, Indiana, Chester Kirby, Cincinnati, Ohio and Buster Kirby of Mt. Vernon; four sisters, Lizzie Renner, Vernie Boone and Josie Mink, all of Mt. Vernon and Nellie Preston of Covington; nine grandchildren and six stepchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Alger Bart Kirby. Services were Jan. 24 at Dowell and Martin Funeral Home with Bro. Zade McClure officiating. Burial was in the Phelps Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Don Ritchie, Martin Ritchie, Robert Kirby, Chester Kirby, Troy Kirby and Everett Renner.
