Mrs. Margaret Hansel Ponder, age 80 of Lancaster, died Wed. July 16 at the Rockcastle Health & Rehabilitation Center in Brodhead. She was born at Pine Hill on Apr. 7, 1923 the daughter of William and Mary Burdine Hansel.
She graduated from Berea College and attained a Master's Degree from the University of Kentucky. As a home economist, she was retired from the UK Cooperative Extension Service, and had served as County Extension Agent for Garrard County until 1982. Prior to that, she had served as Cooperative Extension Coordinator for a seven county area centered in Laurel County. During her 30 years of service to the University of Kentucky, she also served as County Extension Agent in Pike, Johnson, Estill, Mason, and Rockcastle counties. She was also a member of Gilberts Creek Baptist Church near Lancaster.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Austin Dyche Ponder; two daughters, Juddie Donaldson (Ed) of Versailles and Jennifer Wolken (Mike) of Nicholasville; two sons, Bill Ponder of Phoenix, AZ and Jeff Ponder (Kathy) of Hot Springs, AR; one brother, Dempsey Hansel of Mt. Vernon; and 10 grandchildren, Dan Lewis and Kathy Johnson, Aubrey, Austin, and Zelie Donaldson, Amy, Logan, and Emily Ponder, and Carly and Lily Wolken.
