11-01-2001: Obit, Rockcastle Kentucky paper, "Mount Vernon Signal"; Mrs. Losa Odel Kirby Stokes, 103, of Pittman St. in Mt. Vernon, died Friday, October 26th at the Rockcastle Hospital. She was born in Rockcastle County on March 9, 1898, the daughter of Sylvester and Maggie Doan Kirby. She lived in Harlan most of her life. She was a homemaker and was a founding member of the Mt. Vernon church of God. She is survived by: two sons, M. V. Stokes and wife Susie of Mt.. Vernon and Ernest Stokes of Ages, Ky.; a sister, Pearl Newton of Toledo, Oh.; two half-brothers, Ray Kirby and Coy Kirby, both of Livingston; one half-sister, Vivian Kirby of Paducah; 16 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren and 25 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie Stokes; three daughters, Lyna Sadd, Joanne Davis, and Burnice Stokes; one son, Bernie Stokes; three sisters, Nona McFerron, Ophia Hammock, and Winnie Kirby; a brother, Estill Kirby, and a daughter-in-law, Dorothy Stokes. Funeral services were conducted Monday, October 29th at the Dowell and Martin Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Bobby Owens. Burial was in the Sand Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Charles Asbury, Tim Asbury, Harold Colinger, Jr., Bill Marion, Chris Stokes and Claude Stokes.
