Briggs Family Cemetery #2

Contributed by Homer Mussleman
The information on this cemetery was taken from the Stafford County WPA Report and The Register of Overwharton Parish, Stafford County, Virginia, 1723-1758 by George H. S. King.

Update 11/07/2007 by Linda Belles

This cemetery is located in Hartwood, Va. It backs up to property on Stoney Hill Road. David Briggs and his wife Jane are there, also Neil McCoull and Ann McDonald.  There were others there, but the headstones were taken.  Only David and Jane share a huge one which was too heavy to carry off.
Jane Briggs - died 1810 aged 60 years; David Briggs - died 1815 aged 85 years 7 months; Neil McCoull - died 1791 aged 51 years; and Ann McDonald - died 1823 aged 79 years wife of Neil McCoull.

Brigg’s #2 SLAVE CEMETERY                    TM-25  Parcel26G-7

The Cemetery is at 99 Stoney Hill Road.  Go to end of gravel road and the cemetery is about 30 feet on the left side of the house.  There is only ankle deep periwinkle there.  Relatives speak of a slave cemetery being on the property somewhere, but this is the only indication we have of the location.  It is about 100 yards south of the Briggs Cemetery #2.
