Burying Ground
(Col. W.R. Ourand's Farm)
Contributed by: Homer Musselman
Take Poplar Road (Route #616) to Bill
Sterne's store. Go past Bill Sterne's store for about one mile to the farm of
Col W. R. Ourand (USMC, ret.) The cemetery is located in some woods to the left
of an old home site approx. 0.5 miles from the road. This cemetery was a burying
ground for people who lived in the area. There is evidence of numerous unmarked
graves. Col Ourand indicated that Huffman's, Heflin's, and Eustace's were buried
here. Charlie Butler was the last person to be buried here (in 1937). The farm
was previously owned by Mr. Judson Beach. The only stones found in this cemetery
were for Marshall and Welford Heflin, which were surrounded by a small fence,
and for Marshall Huffman.
