Carlton Cemetery
Contributed by: Homer Musselman
"Carlton" is located high on
the hill on the northwest corner at the intersection of U.S. Route #1 and
Warrenton Road (U.S. Route #17.) The cemetery, with a cinder block fence, is
located on the left side of the road that leads to the house.
"Carlton" was built by John Short, Jr. sometime between 1785, when he was married, and 1794, when he died. John M. O'Bannon bought the property in 1837. O'Bannon provided slave labor for unloading and loading ships at Falmouth, at that time a thriving seaport.
