Restoration of the Gray family cemetery Traveller’s Rest site The long neglected Gray family Cemetery was cleaned up thanks to the efforts of Debbi Shelton-Scites and the volunteers she contacted. Debbi saw my request for information on John Bowie Gray’s grave on the Stafford County mailing list at Rootsweb. As a member of the Stafford County Cemetery Committee, and the Adopt A Cemetery Co-coordinator, Debbie took action! She located the old cemetery and contacted people she knew would be interested in helping. The following people helped clean up the cemetery: Linda Belles --- Stafford County Cemetery Committee member Donna Chasen --- local newspaper reporter Al Conner --- a Stafford County resident and VMI alum working on a book about VMI veterans Terry Dorn --- Stafford County resident and VMI alum; Member of project to locate and photograph the graves of the Battle of New Market vets Bowie Gray, his wife Adele and daughter Allison --- descendants Debbi Shelton-Scites --- Stafford County Cemetery Committee member Adopt-A-Cemetery Co-coordinator Rick Scites --- Debbi’s husband Emily & Keller Williams --- property owners Thanks to everyone involved! Sarah Reveley, cousin of George Francis Reveley, VMI Battle of New Market cadet |
