James Sullivan family

Posted By: Nancy <Gingelbell@aol.com>

I am searching for information on the children of James Sullivan who married Lucy Shelton Dec. 1866, Stafford Co. I found James and wife Lucy in 1870 census living with Shelton family. One child listed as Cenderella, age 5. Next I find them in 1880 census living next door to Sheltons with 2 children, Deliah age 9, and Benjamin age 7, no Cenderella. Does anyone have these people in their line. I know that Cenderella is unusual, but have found Deliah in various Sullivan lines. I am interested in finding info on the 3 children. Thank you.

I have been searching for a burial site for Snellings. All that I know it is somewhere near
New Hope Church. I don't know if this is the New Hope Methodist church or if there was a earlier
New Hope Church.

COLVIN, MORGAN

Posted By: Alex Colvin <acolvin.geo@yahoo.com>
Date: Friday, 5 October 2001, at 11:46 a.m.

Greetings:

I am looking for information on the parents of my paternal grandparents: Wm. Colvin and Mary Morgan, both from Stafford, VA.

According to my father's BC, his parents were born about 1898 in Stafford. Having checked the 1900 census for Stafford, I found two likely candidates.

One, a Mary Morgan who is listed in the 1910 Stafford census as the 11-year-old daughter of a Wm. C. Morgan and a Wm. Colvin who, according to the 1900 Stafford census is the two-year-old son of a Wm. H. Colvin.

These two entries are the only ones in the census that seem plausible. The family of Mary Morgan (age 11) is quite large, however, but she is the only entrant among the listed Morgans who seems to mathematically and geographically fit. As for the Wm. Colvin b. 1898, he comes from a smaller family -- a family which also dissapears in the 1910 census. Have tried to pick the brains of family members who may know, but they haven't a clue, and as there were no VA laws in place to require birth registration, obtaining BCs on these two is impossible. Any suggestions?

Kizzie Shelton Sullivan?

Posted By: Hollye <hhutchings@erols.com>
Date: Friday, 24 August 2001, at 7:32 p.m.

I recently received a copy of an SSA Application for Pierce Sullivan, dated 12/3/1936, who listed his father as Gordon Sullivan and listed his mother as Kizzie Shelton. This is the first that I have seen Kizzie's last name as Shelton. Everything else that I have lists her maiden name as Sullivan, daughter of Thomas and Emily Shelton Sullivan. Is it possible that he mistakenly thought that what was actually his grandmother's maiden name was his mother's maiden name? Any ideas? Thank you!

Burdett Reddish or Roddis

Posted By: Judy Belle Horick <jbhorick@yahoo.com>
Date: Monday, 20 August 2001, at 4:35 p.m.

I'm looking for information on my 4great grandfather, Burdett Reddish (or Roddis). I have learned that "Burd" Reddish appears in Stafford County's Deed and Will Abstracts 1780-1786 and Order Book Abstracts 1790-1793. (My source is Abstracts of Virginia County Court Records by Antient Press, vol. 9.) Is there anyone who could check this out for me? I would surely appreciate it.

The only bits of information I have on Burdett Reddish are (1) that he is the grandfather of my 2great grandmother (according to a 1907 newspaper interview of her) and (2) that he appears in the 1810 Madison County, VA, census, living alone.
