If you are researching ancestors who you believed resided within the present day boundaries of Taylor County, you need to take into account where they lived and the changes in the county lines. Prior to December 20,1792, look in Lincoln County. From 1792 until 1848, look in Green County.

Taylor was created from Green County in March 3, 1848. by the Kentucky State Legislature. It was formed from the northeast portion of Green County and named for President Zachary Taylor. Campbellsville became the county seat and the first courthouse was constructed during that year. Some records were lost in a courthouse fire on 25 Dec 1864.

Some older records may be in the newer county.
