Paula Diane Alexander, 39, of Copper Creek Road, Berea, died Wednesday, June 13, 2007, in St. Joseph Hospital Berea. Paula was an employee with ACS in Lexington and
attended the Church on the Rock in Berea. Paula was also 1986 graduate of Rockcastle County High School.

Paula is survived by: her husband, Bill Alexander, and their son, Nicholas; her mother, Patricia Leece Chasteen Lash, and her husband, Howard; maternal grandparents, G.D. and Hester Leece of Crab Orchard; as well as 21 nieces and nephews who loved her dearly. Paula also is survived by several aunts, uncles and close friends who also loved her very much. Paula was preceded in death by her father, Paul Chasteen.

Funeral services for Paula will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Church on the Rock with the Rev. Mark Sarver presiding. Burial will be in the Wilmot Cemetery at Copper Creek. Visitation will be
Friday from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Lakes Funeral Home.

Born Oct. 4, 1939, in Casey County, she was a daughter of the late Cecil and Mable Cochran Pemberton. She was a former employee of Cowden Manufacturing
and the widow of Elbert Oatley Allen. (b. 1935 - d. 1986)

Survivors include two daughters, Myrna Phillips of Eubank and Donna Lucas of Stanford; a son, Lonnie Allen of Stanford; two sisters, Wanda Britt of
Mount Washington and Izetta Bland of Liberty; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and her caregiver, Jimmie Austin.

Victor Allen Ball, age 57, of KY Hwy 70 East in Eubank, passed away Monday, May 6, 2013 at Fort Logan Hospital in Stanford. Born Wednesday, February 29, 1956 in Jellico, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Charles Homer & Elsie Evelyn Candler Ball. Victor was an Auto body Repairman and was of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed motorcycles, playing the guitar, and loved the many friends he leaves behind.

Victor leaves behind one son, Charles Michael Hall (Hannah) of Lexington; one brother, Michael Ball of Anderson, Indiana; one sister, Sharon Gooch (Lonnie) of Eubank; and one granddaughter, Krista Hall of Lexington. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Homer Ball, Jr.; and one sister, Glenda Rae Blevins.

Honoring Victor’s wishes, Cremation Rites have been honored. A Visitation will be held 5-7PM Friday, May 10, 2013 at Fox Funeral Home, Stanford. The Memorial Service will begin at 7:00PM at the funeral home.

Ralph Blanton, age 75, of Buddie Caudill Lane in Waynesburg, passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at his residence. Born Saturday, July 17, 1937 in Hamilton, Ohio, he was the son of the late Lester & Jayne Flora Blanton. Ralph proudly served his country and retired from the US Army, where he served more than 23 years in the military. He loved the Cincinnati Reds, UK Basketball and his beloved K-9 friend, Abby.

Ralph leaves behind several nieces and nephews including a special niece, Elizabeth Caudill of Waynesburg; two brothers, Richard Blanton (Sue) of Crab Orchard and Terry Blanton of Stanford; and one sister, Darlene Blanton of Florida. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Jerry & Roger Blanton; and two sisters, Marie Loudermilk and Judy Caudill.

Funeral Service will be held 2:00PM Friday, May 17, 2013 at Barnett & Demrow Funeral Home with Bro. Chester Cornett officiating the service. Burial will follow in Double Springs Cemetery with Full Military Honors performed by Caswell Saufley Post #18 of the American Legion. FRANKFORT — Dr. Anne S. Butler, renowned African-American and Kentucky historian, passed away Friday, May 3, at age 64 in her home.

A Kentucky native born in Lincoln County (Stanford), Dr. Butler was widely respected for her service, scholarship and passion for her ground-breaking work in presenting and preserving local and national African-American history and contribution. Her service career spans a period of 44 years in higher education

, early childhood education, community engagement and outreach.

Since 1996, Dr. Butler distinctively served in two key posts at Kentucky State University, most recently as the director of Regional Stewardship And Public Engagement and founding director of the KSU Center of Excellence for the Study of African Americans (CESKAA). She was a popular lecturer, frequently consulted by the media.

She participated in numerous television documentaries, including ESPN’s The Great Black Jockeys, The Underground Railroad in Kentucky, Kentucky Women and Public Service, and The African Presence in Kentucky.

Survivors include a son, Marvin, 41, of Olathe, Kan.; a daughter, Jacqui, 34, of Lithonia, Ga.; an adopted daughter, Bemnet Fantu -Downes of North Carolina; three grandchildren, Adonis, Remi and Brody; a sister, Yvonne Campbell of LaGrange, Ga., five nephews; five nieces; and a tribe of loved ones, friends and colleagues.

Visitation for “Dr. B” will be 6-9 p.m. Thursday, May 9, at the Clark Legacy Center, 3000 Versailles Road, Frankfort, Ky.

Mrs. Lizzie Ethel Campbell, 61, died Friday June 26 at her home near McKinney after an illness of about 8 years. She was born January 4, 1892 at Frey's Creek to Milton and Emma Jefferies Wilson.

Surviving are her husband, Robert Filmore Campbell and five of their seven children Mrs. Ruby Douglas of Pricetown, Mrs. Edith Caves of McClellatown, Pa., Melvin with the Air Force in Japan, Delmar of near McKinney, and Edgar Lewis of the home and eitht grandchildren. On died in infancy. The oldest son died from an automobile accident four months age.

She leaves her mother, Mrs. Emma Wilson of Salem, Indiana: five brother, Willie Wilson of Salem, Indiana, Oscar, Everet and Edgar Wilson of Liberty, and Clifton Wilson of Campbellsburg, Ind.; and four sisters, Mrs. Mary Belear of Kenton, Ohio, Mrs. Myrtle Marshall and Mrs. Nettie Walton of Salem, Ind. and Mrs. Ella Williams of Clementsville and Mrs. Rose Young of Dayton, Ohio.

The funeral service was conducted by Rev. James C. Porter, pastor of the Mt. Salem Baptist Church and assisted by the Rev. Gene Stith at the McKinney Christian church.

Mrs. Campbell was a member of the Gum Lick Christian Church in Casey County. Interment was in the Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

Kenneth L. Cardwell, 84, passed away March 31, 2012, at his home with family by his side.

He was a graduate of U of L, served 30 years in the military and was a retired LT. Col. in the Kentucky National Guard. He also retired from B.F. Goodrich / Zeon Chemical Co.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Christine [Reed] Cardwell .

His family includes: Cindy Ray (Pat), Cheryl Cardwell, and Shelley Barron (Mike); eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was cremated and his final resting place is in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery. Neurath-Schoppenhorst Funeral Home.

Born Feb. 24, 1931, in Lincoln County, she was a daughter of the late James Walker and Lucy Anderson Cosby. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Kenneth Cummins.

Mrs. Cummins was a teacher before retiring. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Danville, loved flowers, and enjoyed working in her own flower garden. She often would say flowers made her happy.

She also was a sports fan, especially the University of Kentucky, and would spend hours watching baseball with her husband. Most of all, she loved being around her family and was proud of all they accomplished.

Survivors include her two children, David (Michele) Cummins of Franklin, Ky., and Linda (Rob) Elmore of Danville, Ky.; three grandchildren, Andrea (Kyle) May, Allison (Jacob) Tamme and Matthew Cummins; three great-grandchildren, Lucy Claire May, Samuel May and Luke Tamme; and a sister, Audrey Kirkland.

The family also would like to recognize and express their gratitude to Vicki Ruiz, who was Mrs. Cummins’ caregiver.

Funeral services will be noon Saturday, May 25, 2013, at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home with the Rev. Brent Rowe officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Ky.

Robert Donald “Bobby” Denham, age 83, of KY Hwy 1247 in Stanford, passed away Saturday, May 11, 2013 at Ephraim McDowell Fort Logan Hospital in Stanford.
Born Friday, April 25, 1930 in McKinney, he was the son of the late Virgil P. & Maudie Baugh Denham. Bobby graduated from McKinney High School. He retired from the Engineers
Office at the State Highway Department and also retired as a State Highway Bridge Inspector. He was a member of New Bethel Church of Christ in Jumbo, KY, and a charter member
of the Masonic Lodge 631 in McKinney, a former Boy Scout Master in McKinney, and was a Kentucky Colonel. Bobby loved UK Basketball and loved to sing.

DYE, ARLEN Went to be with the Lord on Nov. 5, 2006. Born in Stanford, KY, Sept. 24, 1929 to Pleasant "Pleas" and Maggie Adams Dye . Survived by his loving and sweetheart wife,
Jewell Dye; children, Daniel Dye and wife Tiffany, Arlene Parker, Clarence Dye, Jean Hickman and 13 grandchildren.

Arlen served in the U.S. Army. As a person of deep personal faith he always enjoyed being with his friends in church. He will be remembered by many people who he helped through the
years by giving them a place to live and to be comfortable in his home. The kindness he showed to others was a gift from God.

Jacob Donald "Jake" Ebenstein, 19, of Eubank, Ky., passed away Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at University of Kentucky Medical Center.

He was born in Olathe, Kan. in Oct. of 1993, son of Donald William Ebenstein and Tina Fay Hauser Ebenstein. He was a senior at Pulaski County High School and an employee of Culvers.

He is survived by his father, Donald William Ebenstein of Gardner, Kan.; his mother, Tina Fay Ebenstein of Eubank; three brothers, William Joseph Cunningham of Eubank, and Matthew Roberto Ebenstein and Adam Victor Ebenstein, both of Gardner, Kan.; one sister, Jalisa Fay Cunningham of Eubank; maternal grandparents, Janrose and Greg Hauser; paternal grandparents, Don and Sue Ebenstein; aunt and uncle, Robyn and Doug Stephens; and cousins Kayla and Tara Stephens.

Bertha Mae Reed Fletcher, age 93, of Herndon Avenue in Stanford, passed away Monday, May 20, 2013 at Select Specialty Hospital in Lexington. Born Thursday, March 25, 1920 in the Moccasin Community of Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Elmer & Florence Bastin Reed. She was the widow of the late Edsil Joseph Fletcher, Jr. Mae was an active member of Stanford Baptist Church, and as a child, she was a member of New Salem Baptist Church. She worked as a CNA at Fort Logan Hospital for many years. She was known as “Nana” to many in the community.

Mae leaves behind one son, Joe Fletcher (Vickie) of Stanford; two daughters, Jane Ann Wilson and Florence Naylor (Richard) both of Stanford; one adopted daughter, Joy Martin of Smithfield, North Carolina; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one son-in-law, Bob Wilson; two brothers, Dallas and Paul Reed; and one sister, Gladys Naylor.

Loie Goble, Jr, 81, of Findlay, died at 7:23 p.m. on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at the Bridge Hospice Care Center. He was born on September 27, 1931 in Waynesburg, KY to the late Loie and Mary M. (Wilson) Goble, Sr.

On December 25, 1960 he married Shirley L. Mason and she survives along with two children, Ron L. (Becky) Goble and Deb S. Goble both of Findlay, sister Pauline (Henry) Sizemore of Findlay, three grandchildren, Andrew D. Goble, Logan S. Goble, Todd J. (Amy) Guear, two great-grandchildren Celia and Drake Guear, a grand dog Fifi and numerous nieces and nephews. Loie was preceded in death by three brothers, Douglas G. Goble, Jerry D. Goble, George W. Goble and two sisters Geneva Vincent and Loretta Helton.

He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Loie retired from Cooper Tire and Rubber Company in 1990 after 35 years of service. He was a loving husband, father, grandpa, brother and uncle who loved gardening and spending time with his family and his grand dog. Loie also enjoyed teasing people.

. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 3, 2013 at Coldren-Crates Funeral Home, with Pastor Chris Cravens officiating. Burial will follow in Knollcrest Gardens, east of Findlay where full military rites will be conducted by the Hancock County Veterans Memorial Squad.

James Craig Greenham, 54, of Ardmore, Okla., formerly of Danville, died Saturday.

Born Sept. 14, 1957, in Elwood City, Pa., he was the son of Margaret “Peg” Greenham of Danville and the late James Greenham. He was a 1975 graduate of Danville High School and graduated from the Evangeline Booth College. Craig served the Salvation Army for more than 20 years and was a major.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his sister, Christel (Gary) Belcher of Danville; his former wife and close friend, Stephanie Greenham Maxwell of Texas; a niece, Jessica Belcher; and a nephew, Allen Belcher.

The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Stith Funeral Home. Burial will be in Corner Cemetery, Crab Orchard.

Hillard Lee Halcomb, age 86, of Greasy Ridge Road in the Highland community of Lincoln County, passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at Ephraim McDowell Fort Logan Hospital in Stanford. Born Thursday, March 10, 1927 in Letcher County, he was the son of the late Charlie Merle & Hattie Mae Cornett Halcomb. He was the widower of the late Ella June Halcomb, who preceded him in death on April 4, 2002. Hillard was a US Navy World War II Veteran, where he was aboard the USS George O. Squire.

Hillard leaves behind five sons, Danny Halcomb (Barbara) of Camden, Ohio, Doyle Halcomb of Kings Mountain, Dale Halcomb (Mary Lou) of Harrodsburg, Dennis Halcomb (Teresa) of Brandenburg, and David Halcomb (Dwanna) of Stanford; two daughters, Donetta Garrison of Hamilton, Ohio and Deronda Sears (Jeff) of Stanford; one brother, Herbert Halcomb of Tacoma, Washington; one sister, Thelma Brooks of Fairfield, Ohio; 17 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. In addition to his spouse and parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Evelyn Meyers.

Harold W. Johnson, age 82 years, of Montpelier, passed away early Monday morning, April 8, 2013, at the CHP Defiance Area In-Patient Hospice Center. He was born June 23, 1930, at Stanford, KY, the son of James and Florence (Anness) Johnson. He married Dorothy Harris on August 31, 1957, and she preceded him in death on October 17, 2006. He lived in Jackson, MI, moving to Archbold in 1985 and to Montpelier in 1995. He worked at Consumers Power Company in Jackson, MI, and later, with his wife, owned and operated the Archbold Lanes from 1985 to 1990. He served in the United States Army from 1955-1957.

He is survived by two children, Stephan (Anita) Johnson of Sterling Heights, MI, and Mary Miller of Montpelier; six grandchildren, Brendan Johnson, Alexander Johnson, Aaron Johnson, Erica Johnson, David Miller and Leah Miller; and a sister Nancy Ezell of Florence, KY.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife.

Services will be held on Friday at 10:30 AM at Short Funeral Home in Archbold with Pastor Nick Hudson officiating. Interment will follow in the Pettisville Cemetery.

Lucy Mae Jones, 78, of Baxter, KY, died at her home this past week. She was born in June 27, 1934 in Stanford, KY to the late Marion and Eliza Greer Jones. She was a retired nurse having worked
at the old Ft. Logan Hospital and the second Ft. Logan Hospital in Stanford, KY, she also worked at coal camp hospitals in Harlan County, KY.

Lucy is survived by several nieces and nephews; she was preceded in death by a daughter, Lee Michelle Jones; five brothers and sisters, Marvin, Paul, William Jones, Mary Foley and Louise Orse.

A graveside service was given on Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at Olive Cemetery in Waynesburg, KY.

Thomas J. Jones, of the county died at his residence on Thursday night last, of pneumonia, after a brief illness. He was about 65 years of age. He leaves a fine estate to his widow

CRAB ORCHARD - Bernice Conn Kidwell, 80, of Copper Creek Road, died Friday at Terrace Nursing Home in Berea.

Born June 28, 1925, in Garrard County, she was the daughter of the late Clay and Susie Ballard Conn. She was a member of Valley Baptist Church, and the widow of Elmer Kidwell and Woods Lear.

Survivors include two sons, Fred Lear of Lancaster and Larry Lear of Cooper Creek; five daughters, Phyllis Pingleton and Joyce Leece, both of Copper Creek, Linda Brock of Brindle Ridge
and Wanda Petitt and Rita Benge, both of Crab Orchard; a sister, Ava Clark of Berea; 20 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Gary Kidwell.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Valley Baptist Church by Greg Lakes and Denton Sears. Burial will be in Wilmot Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jeremy and Jason Brock, Mikel and Jimmy Kidwell, Greg and Kevin Pettit, and Derek Benge.

Honorary pallbearers are Glen and Jamie Lear, Curtis Pingleton and Dwight, Robbie and Michael Pingleton.

Visitation is after 3 p.m. today at McKnight Funeral Home and after 11 a.m. Monday at the church.

Gladys Gifford King, 74 of New Salem passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2013. Born Dec. 5, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Wesley and Marie Martin Gifford.

Gladys is survived by a daughter, Betty Jo Naylor and a grandson, Nathan Naylor, both of New Salem; and by four special friends: Chris Naylor, and Bruce, Pat and Kaye Luster. Services will
be at 1 pm, Thursday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home by Bro. Ricky Rodgers and Bro. Jared Moore with burial in Hustonville Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Bruce Luster, Chris Naylor, Christopher Luster, Marcus Luster, Phillip Austin and Mark Naylor.

LEECE, Faye Elaine was born March 10, 1927. She was the daughter of Howard H. and Edna H. Woodward. She was raised in Eagleport, Ohio and graduated from Enon High School. In 1948, she married Robert B. Leece of Crab Orchard, Kentucky. She made her home in New Carlisle, Ohio most of her married life, where she was an active member of the First United Methodist Church and served as church secretary, Samaritan kitchen cook and was on the Sunshine committee.

She enjoyed cooking, quilting, square dancing, bowling and browsing garage sales. She is survived by her devoted and loving husband of over 58 years, her son, Gregory B. Leece of Lakeview, Ohio; her daughter, Linda C. Leece of Norcross, Georgia; her daughter, Vickie A. Hayes of New Carlisle, Ohio; and her daughter and son-in-law, Carla J. (Leece) and Bruce W. Risner of New Carlisle, Ohio; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Russell and Bob Woodward; and three sisters, Ruth Short, Opal Broyles and Elsie Clawson. Visitation will be Saturday November 4, 2006 from 1-2 PM at Trostel, Chapman, Dunbar & Fraley Funeral Home. Services will follow at 2:00 PM at the funeral home with Pastor Jeff Burdsall officiating. LEECE, Robert B., 88, of New Carlisle, Ohio passed away Saturday, March 30, 2013. He was born February 19, 1925 in Stanford, Kentucky the son of the late Andrew & Betty (Gaylor) Leece. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and retired from General Motors after 39 years. He was a F&AM Lodge 174 in Tipp City for 60 plus years and was a member of the New Carlisle First United Methodist Church since 1964.

He is survived by his children; Linda Leece, Gregory Leece, Carla & Bruce Risner; six grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Faye Leece; and a daughter, Vickie Hayes; four brothers and a sister.

Visitation will be 11-12 noon Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at the Trostel, Chapman, Dunbar, & Fraley Funeral Home, New Carlisle, Ohio, with funeral services at 12 noon in the funeral home with Rev. Jeff Burdsall officiating. Burial will be in New Carlisle Cemetery.

Died at the residence of her brother-in-law F. Carter, on Thursday evening June 6, in her 21 year of her age, Miss Laura Logan.

The deceased was a member of the Christian church at this place and beloved by all who knew her. She became a Christian at an early age of fifteen years and lived a consistent and exemplary life, till the Master called her up higher for a holier work in another field.

Her premature death has greatly afflicted a devoted sister and many relatives, and has awakened a tender sympathy in the hearts of many loving brethren and sister in the Lord. But amid this deep sorrow, they have the sweet consolation that as her life's setting sun sank beneath Time's evening horizon, its last flickering rays, shining through a shower of grief, painted a bow of hope upon that of eternity's promised morning.
"They sorrow not as those who have no hope."

McCOWAN, Stanley Farrell age 64 of Clarksville, Ohio passed peacefully Saturday, April 6, 2013 at Hospice of Cincinnati in Blue Ash, Ohio with his family by his side. Born October 31, 1948 in Hustonville, Kentucky, Stanley was the son of Stanley Martin and Edith (nee Pierce) McCowan and was a Loving father, grandfather, brother and friend to all who knew him.

Stanley will be remembered by many as the Manager of the Lebanon Electric Shop in Lebanon. Stanley was a member of the Bethany Baptist Church in Clarksville and enjoyed gardening and spending time with his grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his parents, Stanley leaves behind his loving children Wade McCowan of Clarksville, Ohio, Joseph (Kristie) McCowan of New London, North Carolina, Shannon McCowan-Matanic of Maineville, Ohio, Casey Coomer of Lincolnton, North Carolina and Kelly Jo McCowan of Canapolis, North Carolina; sister Creston (Dale) Schmidt of Lebanon, Ohio; grandchildren Karah Matanic, Brittany Coomer, Calen Coomer, Michael McCowan, Matthew McCowan, Maria McCowan, Noah McCowan, Elihjah McCowan, Josiah McCowan, Victoria McCowan and Mason Ingram and one great grandchild Peyden Coomer.

Lloyd Means passed away Sunday November 18, 2012 at the Liberty Care Center . He was 72. Born February 27, 1940 in Lincoln County, KY, he is the son of the late Julius and Stella Martin Means.
He was farmer and member of the Mt. Salem Baptist Church.

Survivors include his sons, Greg (Jenny) Means and Barry (Brenda) Means, both of Liberty, and Brian Means of Yosemite; daughter, Tami Campbell of Yosemite; brothers,
Harold Sonny Means of Liberty and Donald Means of Lancaster; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Troy Means and Jeffrey Cochran; brothers, Bobby and Joey Means; sisters, Elsie Wooten, Anna Godbey, Helen Garrett,
Mary Dotson, Marie Ephley, and Barbara Fair; and 2 great-grandchildren.

MORGAN - M. H. Morgan, whose recent stroke of paralysis was noticed in this paper, died Friday morning near his home near Waynesburg, aged 76. He was a member of the Baptist church for
years and a fine old man. Rev. Ira Partin preached the funeral sermon Saturday to a large audience. Mr. Morgan was twice married, first to Miss Padgett, who bore him five children and then to
a sister of Lewis D. Gooch, who had seven children, and who survives her husband.

Patricia Ann Horton Murphy, 79, of Hustonville, Ky., died Saturday, May 18, 2013, at home.

Born Jan. 3, 1934, in Ludlow, Ky., she was a daughter of the late Chester and Anna Klinetank Horton. She was the widow of Claude Murphy and a member of Mount Salem Baptist Church.

Survivors include a special nephew, Glenn Jeffries, and a special niece, Della Jeffries, both of Hustonville; a special friend and caregiver, Shelly Adair of New Salem, Ky.; caregivers Mary Slone, Elsie Brewster, Ann Griffin and Shawn Owens, all of Mount Salem; and Dr. Finley Hendrickson. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Chester, George, Gilbert and James Horton; and three sisters, Mary Dolwick, Louise Britnell and Lilliam Parrott.

Berthelia “Bert” Noe, widow of Jack Noe, age 83, formerly of Burnside, KY, departed this life on Sunday, December 9, 2012 at the home of her sister, Barbara(and Bill) Spencer of Georgetown, KY.

Born October 19, 1929 at Kings Mountain, KY, she was the daughter of the late Dillard and Reba (Gooch) Frederick. She worked for 26 years at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Louisville, KY and was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Louisville, KY. Bert had a love of family and children.

She is survived by three brothers, Garland (and Jean) Frederick of Stanford, KY, Connie (and Velma) Frederick of Waynesburg, KY, and Richard Frederick of Stanford, KY; four sisters, Yvonne Watkins of Bryant, Ark., Wanda Flynn of Bryantsville, KY, Claudene Bryant of Crab Orchard, KY; and Barbara (and Bill) Spencer of Georgetown, KY.

Special mention to her sister-in-law, Linda (and Don) Nelson of Goshen, OH and their children; Sharon Dane and Jeff Tamme of Kettering, OH; Ed and Mary Cleary of Louisville, KY; Bob and Sue Green of Burnside, KY; Harold and Tina Hampton of Burnside, KY; Paul Mounce of Somerset; Doyle Phelps of Somerset; and a very special niece, Pamela Sears of Stanford, KY.

Somerset - Jack D. Noe, 74, of Burnside, Ky., passed away Tuesday, June 1, 2010, at his residence.

Mr. Noe was born in Valley Oak, Ky., on April 15, 1936, to the late Dillard and Edna Bullock Noe. He is the grandson of the late Sam and Dora Bullock. Mr. Noe was a member of the Beuchel Masonic Lodge #896 in Louisville, Ky. He was a Kentucky Colonel, U.S. Army veteran, loved fishing, NASCAR, Gospel and Bluegrass music, family gatherings, and was also very active in the political arena.

Mr. Noe is survived by a spouse, Berthelia M. Noe, whom he married in Lincoln County, Ky., in 1966; a sister, Linda (and Don) Nelson of Goshen, Ohio; six special cousins, Jean Bales, Wanda Beshear, Ginger Sears, Tony Noe, Ellen Tucker and Tony Chadwell; a special niece and nephew, Wanda Smith and James (and Lori) Nelson; and also special great nieces and nephews, Amanda, Lacey, David, Jordan and Jacob.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 4, at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home at 1 p.m. with Bro. Joe Childress officiating.

Samuel Owsley, Esq., of this county, died at his home near our town on last Sunday morning, after a somewhat protracted illness of catarrh of the head, which involved the nose, ears and brain.
He had been an invalid for several months and confined to his home.

A short time since he made a profession of religion, attaching himself to the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, and was baptized by Dr. Taylor, the present pastor of that church at Stanford.

Mr. Owsley was a nephew of Governor Owsley, and son of Thomas Owsley. He was about 53 years of age. By Industry, honesty and economy he had accumulated a considerable estate,
which he leaves to a second wife and six children.

He was one of our most worthy and energetic citizens, and lived all his life with the confidence and respect of all who knew him.

Bessie M. Peck, 88, of Stanford, KY passed away Friday, May 3, 2013 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville, KY. Bessie was born April 23, 1925 in London, Laurel Co., KY to the late William A. Miracle and Nancy Catherine Hoskins Miracle. She was a homemaker who loved cooking, canning, bluegrass music, and spending time with her family. She was instrumental in getting Special Education classes started in the Lincoln County School system, she was a Kentucky Colonel, and was a member of the Calvary Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband of 65 years; Robert "Bob" Peck, three sons; Jim Peck, Steve Peck, and Lyndon Peck (Wanda), one daughter; Peggy Denham (Randy) , one grandchild; Daniel Peck all of Stanford, KY, and four special friends; Dorthea Schlappi, Peggy Carrier, Sarah Givens, and Flossie Smith.

Visitation will be Sunday, May 5, 2013 from 5-8pm. Funeral service will be Monday, May 6, 2013 at 2pm with Reverend Robert Shockley officiating. Dr. W. B. Penny Danville, Ky., March 19-Dr. W. B. Penny, 65 years old , died at the home of relatives here this afternoon. For many years he was a dentist here, but left here a year ago for
Kansas. He served as a captain in the Spanish-American war, seeing service in Porto Rico. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Mary Boone Penny of Stanford; his widow, two daughters. Miss Cooper Penny of Stanford and Mrs. Mack Fisher of Kansas, and a brother, George l. Penny of Hazard.

Lois Perry, age 81 of Middleburg, KY, passed away on
Friday November 2, 2012, at the Liberty Care Center. She was born in Middleburg, Ky on March 27, 1931 a daughter of the late J. Lee and Inez Delk Walls.
She was a homemaker and a member of Indian Creek Baptist Church.
She was the widow of Ralph Perry.
Survivors include a host of friends.

Geneva Wilson Porter, 78, of Waynesburg, died Friday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Porter of Gravel Switch; and a brother, Virgil Wilson of Gravel Switch.

Services were today at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home. Burial was in Simpson Cemetery, Casey County.

A telegram was received here yesterday stating that this young man of this place, had been drowned that morning in the Rockcastle River. We have no particulars.

All who knew young Purdom will deplore his fate, and extend their sympathy to his bereaved kindred. His remains will be brought here for permanent burial.

Oather Jackson "O.J." Robbins, 69, of Crab Orchard died Saturday at Fort Logan Hospital, Stanford.

Born Sept. 16, 1939, in the Sand Springs Community in Rockcastle County, he was a son of the late Charlie Boone and Minnie Viola Bullock Robbins. He was a farmer and a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Della Sue Robbins of Crab Orchard, whom he married on September 22, 1961, a daughter, Kathy Lee (Carl) Smith of Louisville; two brothers, Billy Robbins of LaPort, Ind., and Jesse Robbins of Lewisburg, Ohio; and six sisters, Minnie Mae Petrey of Lexington, Roberta Brown of Brodhead, Francis Petrey of Crab Orchard, Virginia Lail and Irene Hodge, both of Clyde, N.C., and Helen Chesser of Lewisburg, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, James, Paul and Kenneth Robbins; and two sisters, Betty Sue Robbins and Josephine Oaks.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at McKnight Funeral Home by Bro. Ron Meese. Burial will be in Ephesus Church Cemetery.

Loyd P. Russell, eldest son of W. J. Russell died at his father's residence in Lincoln County Kentucky, January 8th 1872.

The deceased had attained only to the age of nineteen years and six months. He made a profession of faith in Jesus Christ at an early age, and maintained his Christian profession in a most exemplary manner.
A high sense of honor and Christian integrity were characteristic of his life.

His education, which was very fair for his age, was arrested by failing health. A bright future invited him onward, and a life of honor and usefulness seemed spread out before him; but alas, disease came stealthily and undermined his physical constitution. But as he faded gradually away from earth, his faith, hope and love, grew brighter and stronger.

His remains were temporarily laid away in a garden by the family residence, and on the 15th inst. were disinterred and removed to the Hustonville cemetery, where his body was quietly laid down to
sleep its last long sleep, until Jesus shall come to raise it up again.

His life, though so early cut off, was a glorious success. The loss his loving parents feel so heavily, is his eternal gain. .............W.

Marie Sims, 81, of Waynesburg, Kentucky, passed away Friday, April 26, 2013 at Danville Center for Health & Rehab.

She was born in Kings Mt., Kentucky on May 3, 1931, daughter of the late William Jesse and Bessie Fredrick Cook. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

She is survived by three daughters, Loretta Sue Sims of Frankfort, KY, Rita Nicholson of Lexington, KY and Anita Caudill of Solon, OH, one sister, Alma Faye Padgett Helton of Corbin, KY, five grandchildren, Kevin Caudill, Brian Caudill, Melissa Caudill, Jason Nicholson and Ami Nicholson and two great-grandchildren, Aubrey Caudill and Reagan Caudill.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Sims, her parents and two brothers, James Wallace Cook and David Eugene Cook.

Shirley Gale Crowe McMullin Singleton, 64 of Moreland went to her Heavenly home on Friday, May 3, 2013. Born Oct. 20, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Christine Hill Crowe and Elmer Crowe, Jr. She was a retired Licensed Practical Nurse and a member of Southland Christian Church in Danville.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Michael D. Singleton; one son, Kevin (Tanya) McMullin of Forkland; one daughter, Jennifer Reese of Louisville; two step daughters, Jennifer (Scott) Larson of Danville and Katie Singleton (Scotty Allen) of Pensacola, Florida; one sister, Margaret (James) Wilburn of Stanford; two brothers: Ricky (Kim) Crowe of Junction City and Bruce (Wendy) Crowe of Lexington; two grandchildren, Haley and Jordan McMullin; four step grandchildren: Nichole and Molly Allen and Michael and Emery Larson; and a soon to be - great grandson, Orion Lukas.

Elizabeth Joann Moore Smith, 72, of Butchertown, passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at home.

Born July 14, 1940, in McKinney, she was a daughter of the late Herbert and Lucy Campbell Moore. She was a member of Maxey Valley First Church Of God. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Smith, and her sister, Velma Wright.

Survivors include a son, Keith A. Smith of Hustonville; a daughter, D.J. Smith of Butchertown; and brothers, Lowell, Harold and Harlow Moore, all of McKinney.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home by Bro. Marshall Malone. Burial will be in Butchertown Cemetery.

Samuel A. Tucker, 60, of Port Orange entered into Eternal Life at 6:46 p.m. Monday, June 30, 2008, at his residence. A memorial service will be held at noon on Saturday, July 5th, at Covenant United Methodist Church in Port Orange. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 4th, at the Lohman Funeral Home in Port Orange.

Sam was born October 24, 1947, in Stanford, Kentucky, the son of John Andrew and Libby (Hoeck) Tucker. He was united in marriage to Ann Marie Seitz in 1970. Sam attended school in Marion, Ohio, and graduated from Shelby Senior High School.

He served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1969. He earned his Private and Commercial pilot's license and gave private Instrument flying lessons, including ground instruction. He worked for over 20 years at Autocall in Shelby, Ohio, and since moving to Florida has worked for 12 years at WSA Systems in Daytona Beach.

Sam was a member of Covenant United Methodist Church in Port Orange, where he taught Sunday school and Bible Study for 10 years. He was a past member and deacon of the Worldwide Church of God in Mansfield, Ohio. He also was a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, the National Electrical Contractors Association, the National Fire Protection Association and the National Rifle Association.

Survivors include: Ann, his loving wife of 37 years; son: Jim (wife Karen) Tucker of Port Orange; daughters: Jill (husband Ron) Kolman of West Salem, Ohio, Julie (husband Shawn) LaDouceur of Port Orange, Sara (husband Lee) McHatton of Chico, California; grandchildren: Tucker and Dallas McHatton; mother: Libby Tucker of Shelby, Ohio; sisters: Linda (husband Mark) Whitman and Regina Travis both of Hilliard, Ohio; and five nieces and three nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, John Andrew Tucker, Jr. and a great-nephew, Ryan Stanley. Samuel was known as a wonderful gardener and photographer, and for his great sense of humor. He deeply loved his family and his God. He will be sadly missed by all of those who knew and loved him.

We clip the following painful intelligence of the death by accident, of Johnie Wright, son of Mr. Thales Wright, a former citizen of the county, for the Osceola (MO.) Weekly Democrat, and
offer to the bereaved relations and friends of the family, our sincere sympathy.

We remember the deceased as a remarkably intelligent and manly little fellow; always up with his classes in school, and a proud defender of the "Lost Cause"

The tribute paid to his amiable mother (daughter of Mr. Marquis Helm, of this county) by the Democrat, will be regarded by all who know her as eminently just:

It becomes our painful duty as Journalists to record the particulars of a shocking accident which

occurred at this place about 3 o'clock on Friday afternoon last, by which Johnnie G. Wright, son of Mr. Thales H. Wright, a highly respectable citizen, a young man in the bloom and flush of
youth and vigor and incipient manhood, was hurried from time to eternity. The particulars of this sad affair are about as follows:

"It appears that young Wright, in company with two or three other lads and Mr. Caldwell, the railroad contractor, were at the branch just under the hill and beyond the point at which the
railroad hands are blasting, engaged in catching minnows for fishing purposes.

While thus employed, a blast was let off, numberless pieces of the rock flying in the direction of the party.

Mr. Caldwell, who was standing in close proximity to the deceased, saw a large fragment of rock, weighing about forty pounds, flying through the air towards them.

He immediately cautioned the boys to "look out," and stepped aside himself; but before young Wright could escape, the fragment of rock fell on the hill just above him, and rebounding,
struck him on the head just above of the left eye, and passing on, almost buried itself in the soft earth.

When reached, it was found that the skull was terribly crushed. He was immediately ...(unreadable.) to his home only a short distant of the scene of the accident, when Dr. Dozler,

after a careful examination, pronounced his injuries necessarily fatal, lingered in a insensible condition until about half-past 11 o'clock p.m. when his spirit winged its flight to eternity.

"At the time of the accident the father of the deceased was absent at Richey's Mill, but when it became known that Johnny could not possible survive his injuries, a messenger was dispatched for
him, and he reached home just in time to see him breath his last.

"Young Wright was born near Stanford, Kentucky, on the 14th day of December, 1854 and was

consequently in his eighteenth year. He was an honest, industrious and upright young man, eminently faithful and singularly exemplary in all the relations of life, and universally esteemed and beloved by all who knew him; and it will certainly be a great source of consolation to the bereaved family to know that the universal exclamation of our people, white and black, old and young, was, "What a pity: Johnny was such a good boy!"

No feeble words that we could pen would pay such an eloquent tribute to her who filled the place of mother to him as these simple and spontaneous expressions.

"His remain, attended by a large concourse of citizens, who seem to have turned out without regard to age, sex or color, were consigned to their last resting-place on Saturday afternoon, the

An eloquent and appropriate discourse was delivered by the Rev. A. R. Nichols, and amid the soft, sweet strains of a beautiful dirge, and the sound of the clods of the valley
rattling above him, sorrowing hearts whispered to him a long and last farewell.

In life, Johnny was ever faithful over a few things; may we not trust that in death he has been made master over many?"
