County Ct. Miscl. 1842-1879

Filed Nov 11, 1873

To the Pendleton County Court, your committee to whom is refered the report of a settlement between the Sheriff and Treasurer of said county, would respectfully submit the following:

We find as we think in said settlemen, some few errors.  The Sheriff and Treasurer's report on Rail Road Tax shows $2,016176.00 as Realty for the year 1873.  Your committee, after examing the assessor's Book, have to report as Realty $2,054,031.00.  Showing an error of $37,855.00 more than is reported in said Sheriff and Treasurer's Statement.  The above amount for Rail Road purposes of $2, 054,031.00 at 50¢ per hundred dollars makes $10,270.15 which is $187.27 more than is reported in said Sheriff and Treasurer's Statement.  The indebtedness of the Sheriff for the year 1872 as per Supplementary and amended report of $314.80 added to the $10270.15 for the year 1873 makes the total indebtedness of the Sheriff for Rail Road Taxes $10,584.95.  Subject to delinquents, Commissions and exemptions the Committee would further state that they have also examined the Tax Report for Bridge purposes for the year 1873, of said Sheriff and Treasurer's Settlement and find an error in the same.

Their report shows $2,558683.00 which is $8,900.00 more than we can make an examination of the Assessor's Books.  the amound should be $2549783.00 at 20¢ per hundred Dollars equals $5,099.56 for Bridge pruposes.  This is $17.80 less than is reported by Sheriff and Treasurer.  They also report 2861 Tythes, which upon examination of Assessors book, we find to be an error of 100 tythes, making $100.00 more than their Report shows.  The total amount of Tythes for Bridge purposes for the year 1873 is 2961 at One Dollar per Tythe, equals $2,961.00.  This added to the above makes a total amount for Bridge purposes for the year 1873 of $8,060.55 and this amount added to the supplementary and amended report fo the Balance, due for the year 1872 of $6,733.42 makes a total of Bridge Taxes from all sources of $14,793.98 Subject Delinquents, Commissions and exemptions.

The Committee would further state that they have also examined the Sheriff and Treasurers Settlement of the County Levy Tax for the year 1873 and find an error in same.  Their Report shows 2861 tythes which upon examination of the Assessors Books we find to be 100 short, and at $2.00 each makes an error of $200.00 in Settlement.  It should be 2961 Tythes for the year 1873 at $2.00 each Tythes equals $5922.00 for County Levy purposes.  this added to the supplementary and amended report fo the Balance due for the year 1872 of $66.83 makes a total of County Levy from all sources of $5,988.83 subject to Delinquents, Commission and exemptions.

NOTE: These records have been transcribed from several different sources, either by us or by other researchers and provided as a starting point to assist you in your research; we've verified as many as we could, but be aware that there may be errors (either mis-spellings on the original records, almost illegible writing on the records, and/or typing errors on my part), so make sure to double check them prior to assuming they're "the gospel truth". We will never deliberately include erroneous information in any part of this site.

These records have not been copied by either of this site's coordinators from other sites, as has been implied by some. Sources have included records from the E. E. Barton research files, military records, newspapers, microfilm and/or compiled lists that were provided by family members and other researchers. The majority of the additions to the marriage index pages on 17 and 30 Jun 2007 were transcribed from FHC microfilm #973027.
