Mark L. Prowse
Mark L. Prowse was born December 12, 1846, in Muhlenberg County, and is the thirteenth of nine boys and six girls (thirteen living) born to George O. and Mary (Wells) Prowse, natives of North Carolina. George O. Prowse was a colonel of militia; came to Muhlenberg County about 1825, and settled where our subject now resides on 400 acres, which he improved.
Mark L. was reared on a farm, received a common school education, and also taught one term; was eighteen years old when his father died; his mother died in 1881, aged seventy-three years. At the age of twenty-three, Mark L. commenced selling goods for himself and others, and continued four or five years. He then returned to farming, which he has since followed; is the owner of 400 acres of land, which he has acquired by his own industry and perseverance. He had two brothers in the Third Kentucky Cavalry, Federal service, in the late war.
Mr. Prowse was married in February, 1878, to Lue King, of Muhlenberg County, a daughter of Francis A. and Mary (Mullin) King, natives of Virginia and Tennessee, respectively. To this marriage were born three children: William A., Omnia and Omer. Mr. Prowse is a member of the F. & A.M.; was formerly a Granger.
