Philip & Sarah Anthony

Philip Anthony died 1817 in Hopkins Co., Kentucky. The inventory and appraisal of his estate took place October 1817 and was recorded in Hopkins Co., Kentucky Will Book 1, pages 277-278. The estate was settled in 1838

After his death, Philip Anthony's widow married Thomas Stokes. Stokes is listed in the 1838 settlement of Anthony's estate as the husband of Anthony's widow though her name is not given.

Besides his remarried widow, the settlement of Philip Anthony's estate (Hopkins Co., Kentucky Will Book 4, page 62-63), administered by Jacob Anthony, records his heirs as “distributees” of the estate.

Siblings of Philip Anthony: In his will of 1842 (Muhlenberg County Will Book 3, page 45), Jacob Anthony names his sister Polly Rust and her children John J. Rust, James H. Rust, & Jane Ward (wife of Charles D. Ward); his nephew Thomas J. Anthony; Thomas J. Anthony's sisters Polly Cobb, Rosanna Jenkins (wife of Robert Jenkins), and Emeline Harrison (wife of Solomon Harrison); and his two brothers William & John Anthony.

Sarah Stokes, the widow of Philip Anthony and Thomas Stokes, died 7 Mar 1874 in Muhlenberg County. Her gravestone at Reynolds Cemetery reads: Wife of Thomas Stokes, died aged 78 yrs. 9 mos. 20 ds. (A Reynolds family researcher has suggested that Sarah Anthony Stokes may be the daughter of Joseph & Frances Reynolds. More research is needed.)

Children of Philip & Sarah Anthony:

Contributed by Cheryl Cessna, 3rd great granddaughter of Philip Anthony.
