Edward Jarvis of Muhlenberg in the state of Kentucky who was a Private in the comp. commanded by Captain Welch of the regt. commanded by Colo. Folson in the N. Carolina line for 1 years & 9 months

Inscribed on the Roll of Kentucky at the rate of 70 dollars per annum to commence on the 4th day of March, 1831.

Certificate of Pension ißued the 18 day of October 1837 and [sent to] Charles F. Wing, Greenville.

Soldier's Declaration

Declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the act of Congress passed the 7th of June 1832

State of Kentucky Muhlenberg County Sct. On this 27th day of August 1832 before the Honorable Alney McLean Judge of the Muhlenberg Circuit Court in Court sitting, Edward Jarvis, a resident of the County of Muhlenberg and state of Kentucky aged 69 years, the 31st day of last July, who being just duly sworn according to law doth on his oath make the following Declaraction in order to obtain the benefit of the act of Congress of June 7th 1832; that he enlisted [in] the service of the United States as a Volunteer [as] a private under the following named officers To wit Col. -- Folsom commanded the regiment Captain -- Welch, John Rochel Lieutenant, Ensigh not recollected and served as herein stated that on the __ day of __ he then residing in the County of Wake & state of North Carolina under Captain Welch as aforesaid for a Tour of three months, we were marched to Croß [Cross] Creek or Fayette where we remained during the Tour & guard the place; we were then marched back to Hillsboro & were discharged; we drew our pay at Hillsboro; that shortly after his return home, he enlisted [in] the service for six months; the company was commanded by Jeremiah Mobley to which your applicant be Cor[?] ged[?] Lieutenant -- Allen, Ensign not recollected, the regiment was commanded by -- Sanders. We were marched to the relief of Savannah but it surrendered before we got there. We then marched up Savannah River on one side & the British on the other. The British arrived at Augusta & lay there & we took possession [of] Walletson's Bluff [where] General Nash join us to watch their movements. The British then marched down the River to Brier Creek, crossed the river & burnt the bridge. We marched down to the bridge & found it destroyed. The British crossed Brier Creek, come in upon us behind & defeated us & we lost many of our men in the retreat. This took place in the state of Georgia. Before this battle I joined Colonel Archibald Little's regiment of Infantry & was under his command in the aforesaid battle we were then as well as now recollected marched to the two sisters and discharged shortly after the expiration of his tour aforesaid. He volunteered under Woodson Daniel for the term aforesaid. The regiment to which he belonged was commanded by Col. Sumpter or Sumner, he does not recollect which. We were marched from Hillsboro to Rudes Mill & from that to the Battleground where General Gates was defeated; that he was in the battle at Gates defeat; he states that the American troops were dispersed & as well as now recollected rallied at the Hawfield at Genl. Butler's.

After this tour expired, he then entered the service again for the Term aforesaid under Captain Samuel Hye, Lieutenant Edwards, Ensign not recollected nor Colonel nor General. He was then marched to the high or hanging rock of ___[?] ____[?] and he was sent out on a scout & whilst he was out the battle of Guilford was fought. He joined the army immediately after they did not ___[?] the army until the battle was over altho[?] the company was in hearing[?] & marched rapidly to reach the Battleground & did not reach the army until ___[?] the engagement; shortly after this Battle he was discharged. He then entered the service as a County Ranger under Colonel John Pope for three months. He was in no battle or skirmish the last Tour, he served out his time in each of the aforesaid Tours & was honorably discharged & received discharges but took no care of them; they are lost. He was also in the service of the United States in the last War & was in the battle at New Orleans; that he moved from Wake County Carolina in or about 1792 to the Crab Orchard in Kentucky; that he moved to Muhlenberg County Kentucky or what is now Muhlenberg County about 1799 as well as he recollects; that in addition to the service herein set out, he served another Tour under Colonel Farmer, the company commanded by Robert Lane that made a forced march from Camden to the Eutaw Springs by the way of Hampsons Fort. We arrived there just before day after marching all knight [night] & was in the battle & after the Battle, he was placed under the command of Col. Malm- [end of page]…

And I Alney McLean sole Judge of the Muhlenberg Circuit Court do certify and declare my opinion after the investigation of the matter and after putting the questions prescribed by the war department that the above named applicant was a revolutionary soldier and served as he states, and the court further certifies that it appears to them[?] that George W. Reynolds who has signed the preceding certificate [not included with this transcription] is a clergyman, resident [in] the County of Livingston but previously in the County of Muhlenberg and that Edmund Watkins who has signed the same is a resident in the County of Muhlenberg and is a credible person and that their statements entitled to credit.

Mary Jarvis, widow of Edward Jarvis NC, who served in the Revolutionary war, as a Private.

Inscribed on the Roll at the rate of 70 dollars 00 cents per annum, to commence on 3d February, 1853.

Certificate of Pension issued 30th day of Novemr., 1854 and sent to J.J. Coombs, present.

Widow's Declaration

State of Kentucky
Muhlenberg County
On the 11 day of November 1854 before the County Court of Muhlenberg, now in session, personally appeared Mary Jarvis, aged about sixty years, resident of said county, who having being duly sworn according to law upon ____[?] herewith[?] makes the following declaration for the purpose of obtaining the amount of pension due her deceased[?] husband Edward Jarvis, under the act of Congress of June 7, 1832 and also for the purpose of obtaining a pension in her own right, as his widow under the act of 3 February 1853.

That she was married to the said Edward Jarvis in 1824 and that record of the fact is hereunto annexed. That her said husband Edward Jarvis deceased was a Revolutionary Soldier as a [blank] in the Revolutionary war for which he received a pension at the rate of one hundred and twenty dollars per annum and she refers to his declaration on file in the pension office for a full and specific statement of his services.

She further states that her said husband died in Muhlenberg County Kentucky on the ___ day of February 1836 and that she has not again married, but still remains his widow. She further declares that she has never received any pension or made any application thereof[?]. She further declares the pension certificate is lost or misplaced.

Wing Clerk of the county court of Said County do hereby certify that bond and security has been taken in my office according to Law for a marriage shortly intended to be solemnized between Edward Jarvis and Mary Forester. These are therefore to license and permit you to join together in the holy and honorable state of Matrimony the said Edward Jarvis and Mary Forrester according to the rites and ceremonies of the church to which you belong. Given under my hand hand

Mr. Wing, I certify that on the 11th of Sep. 1824, I solemnized the rites of Matrimony between Edward Garvis [sic] & Mary Forrester.
