Richard Nelson Alcock, 1807

In the name of God amen. I Richard Nelson Alcock of the state of Kentucky and county of Muhlenberg do make and ordain this my last will and testament.

In the first place I give and bequeath to my son Counsel Alcock one sorrel mare with a blaze face that I purchased of William Hynes, one cow and calf which property he the said Counsel now has in his possession also I give him the said Counsel five shillings current money to him and his heirs forever.

It is my will that my wife Sarah live upon my land and be supported by my property during her lifetime.

I give and devise to my two sons Durand and James all my lands and real estate whatever provided however that my executors shall have the direction, custody and management of the said estate and the disposal of the profits thereof until my son James shall arrive at the age of twenty one years at which time it is my will that my said lands and real estate be equally divided between my said two sons Durand and James to hold to them and their heirs forever. It is my will that my stock of horses, cattle and hogs be kept on my farm for the supoort of my two sons Durand and James at the discrection of my executors. But when my son Durand arrives to the age of twenty one years my will is that he have a horse valued to him by my executors and all the remainder of my aforesaid personal property I desire may be equally divided between my two sons Durand and James when my said son James arrives at the age of twenty one years.

I give and bequeath to my son James and his heirs forever a negro boy named Ben provided nevertheless and it is my will that my friend Charles Fox Wing shall have the use and possession of the said boy Ben for his own use until my said son James arrives at the age of twenty one years. I give and devise all my other negroess to my two sons Durand and James provided however that my executors shall ahve the direction and management of the said negroes until my said son James shall arrive at the age of twenty one years at which time it is my desire that my said negroes shall be equally divided between my said sons Durand and James to hold to them and their heirs forever.

It is my will that after the death of my wife all the remainder of my property whatever both real and personal be equally divided between my two sons Durand and James and their heirs or so soon as my son James comes to the age of twenty one years until which time it is my will that my executors shall have the direction of it.

It is my will and desire that my friend Charles Fox Wing have as much corn and pork from my farm every year as will be sufficient to support himself, my son James and my negro boy Ben, until my sons James shall arrive to the age of twenty one years.

I desire that my son Counsel may have the use of the land he now lives on during the time he stays thereon.

It is my will and desire that if either of my said sons Durand or James should die before he comes to the age of twenty one years during the life of the other the survivors shall have the whole of the said estate and property which I have herein before willed to be equally divided between them to him and his heirs. If both of my said sons Durand and James should die without issue then it is my will and desire that the said estate and property which I have herein before devised to them shall go to my friend Charles Fox Wing and his heirs forever.

It is my will that so much of my stock be sold by my executors as shall be sufficient to defray my funeral charges and expenses and also so much as shall be necessary for the use and support of my wife and sons Durand and James.

It is my desire that my two sons Durand and James shall be educated under the direction of my friend Charles Fox Wing as he may think proper and in case of his death then it is my will that my other executors shall have the direction and superintendance of their education.

I do constitute and appoint my friends Charles Fox Wing, Charles Lewis and Henry Davidge executors of this my last will and testament and I do hereby revoke and make void all other will or wills, gift or gifts heretofore by me made and do ratify and confirm this and no other to be my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this ninth day of March 1803.

The last will and testament of Richard N. Allcock decd. was returned into court and proved by the oaths of Samuel Russell and David H. Stephens subscribing witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded.
