Thomas Stokes Will

Transcription

In the name of God Amen. I Thomas Stokes of the county of Muhlenberg & state of Kentucky being weak in body & strong in mind do make this my last will & testament.

1st I do will & bequeath unto my son John Stokes his horse saddle & bridle & hogs.

2nd I do will & bequeath to my son James Calloway Stokes one certain sorrell mare claimed by my son J.C. Stokes saddle & bridle & a certain cow & calf also claimed by my son J.C. Stokes.

3rd I do will & bequeath unto my son Lafayette Stokes my two colts.

4” I do will & bequeath unto my dear beloved wife Sally Stokes all the balance of my property during her widowhood & after her death to go to my son Lafayette Stokes.

5” My will is that all my just debts be paid out of the above named property.

6” My will is that Thomas J. Anthony & James T. Quisenberry be my executors. Given under my hand & seal this 19” August 1844.

The foregoing last will & testament of Thomas Stokes decd. was exhibited into court by the executors therein named & proved to be the act & deed afsaid Thomas Stokes by the oaths of Thomas J. Anthony & James T. Quisenberry, the subscribing witnesses thereto & ordered to be recorded, which is thereupon admitted to & truly recorded.
