In 1870 after bad luck on Fish place George and "Polly" going to California, stoped in Newtonia, MO., established a home and store where Alma was born June 21, 1875, also Zachary Taylor born April 26, 1878. Some of Polly's brothers were from Crab Orchard and stayed with Polly while George Miller made trips for cattle and to establish the ranch at Miami, OK, - across the state line and 20 miles from the home in Missouri. George W. Carson, a brother was in party when he made first trip to Texas.
In 1880, he sold home in Newtonia, MO and the store and moved family to Baxter Springs, Kansas, 5 miles from Miami Ranch. Here, Sept. 9, 1881, third son, George Lee Miller, was born. In spring of 1881 after Polly had made the annual trip to Crab Orchard, they moved to Winfield, Kansas. There they began living with servants, a new carriage, prancing bays, also a surrey and gentle mare for Mrs. Miller. George then attended church in "formal" clothes, silk hat, and gold headed walking stick.
Joe Carson Miller was sent horseback by his father George, when 11 years old, to Baxter Springs, Kansas to tell 'White Eagle' and Cherokee Indians their new assigned land was desirable. In 1879, Cherokees accepted the land from the Government. Col. Joe was loved forever by Indians there and we all know that in Oklahoma they had built up a big ranch near Ponca City, (south of Winfield home) and were building a huge home three stories and basement with everything you could imagine when Col. George Miller, the father, died of pneumonia at the ranch on Sat., April 25, 1903 - age 61 years - body was shipped to Crab Orchard, Kentucky. Polly and children finished house by Xmas 1903 and ate 1st meal Xmas Day. Same house burned 1909 January, second one they called the "White House". Polly died July 31, 1918 - age 72"
