BAKER, HARDIN, LINDSAY posted by Terry L. Harper on Thursday, October 8, 1998

Allen BAKER and Nancy R. LINDSAY were married 19 Jan 1837 in Edwards Co., IL. Nancy was the daughter of Orlando D. LINDSAY and Sarah HARDIN. The LINDSAY family moved to Edwards County before 1830 from Henry Co., KY. Allen and Nancy LINDSAY BAKER appear in the 1840 census of Edwards County. At this time, none of their children had been born. In the following years, the following children were born: Sarah BAKER, born ca. 1840 Orlando BAKER, born ca. 1843 Simon BAKER, born ca. 1846 George BAKER, born ca. 1849 It is believed that Nancy LINDSAY BAKER died soon after the birth of her son George. All four of the above-listed children of Allan and Nancy LINDSAY BAKER were living with their grandparents, Orlando and Sarah LINDSAY, in the 1850 census of Edwards County. The children were still living with their grandparents LINDSAY in the 1860 census of Edwards County. Their grandfather, Orlando D. LINDSAY, died in 1861 and their grandmother, Susannah HARDIN LINDSAY, died in 1863; both in Edwards Co., IL. What happened to the grandchildren at that time? George BAKER (21) and Orlando BAKER (36) were still living in Edwards County in 1870 (census). Allen BAKER is listed as a laborer in the 1850 census of White Co., IL. Allen remarried to Jane Ann McDONALD in Edwards Co., IL. What happened to Allen BAKER after his remarriage? Who were his parents and where did they come from?

BAKER, MCENORE, PILES posted by Kathy Hartmann on Monday, October 12, 1998

PILES. Henry Co. KY. Do you know this man or his family? Conradus PILES appears to have move to KY by 1788. He married Nancy BAKER in Shelby Co. in 1797. He purchased 1,000 acres of land in Henry Co. with Reuben and John MCENORE, which they divided among themselves in 1802. Conradus PILES signed his legal documents. From the 1830 Census records, he was born between 1740 and 1750, and presumably died before 1840. He is not listed in the 1840 Census as head of household. His children may have been James, Betsy, Patsy (Martha), David, Abraham and Thomas, according to an 1817 deed of sale. Would very much like to contact anyone with knowledge of this family.
